MH370 Amid scathing criticism against Malaysia’s handling for the MH370 crisis, MCA Youth has launched a signature drive to rally Malaysians to "defend" their country.

The signature drive kicked off at Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, where passers-by are seen signing a banner that says "Defend Malaysia".

MCA youth chief Chong Sin Woon said Malaysian should unite and support their country that is facing what he considers to be unfair criticism.

"Since MH370 went missing, people all over the world especially netizens are putting the blame on Malaysia. This is wrong.

"The world’s most sophisticated instruments and satellites have already been mobilised, but no one could find this plane, and yet Malaysia is accused of hiding the truth," he says.

He said the campaign will continue indefinitely as needed and hopes others will start similar initiatives too.

With him are KL Hawkers and Petty Traders Association chairperson Ang Say Tee and a representative from the Eight Major Chinese Youth-based Organisations Rocky Foo,  who are both backing the campaign.

Good diplomatic ties

He urged Chinese nationals not to harass Chinese Malaysians in China, particularly Malaysian artists, because such outbursts are unreasonable.

Chong points to the long-standing good relations between Malaysia and China, including the fact that Malaysia is the first Southeast Asian nation to establish diplomatic contact with the country when it did so in 1974.

He believes that most Chinese and most Malaysians are rational and friendly.

"If this affects the relations between the two countries, it would be such a shame...

"We hope that this will quickly blow over and the good ties between our two peoples are restored," he said.

As of 5.30pm today,  the signature drive appears to be well-received even by foreign tourists, until a 6pm storm drove almost all pedestrians off the streets.

To a question whether the signatories understood the campaign since there appeared to be no explanation of its significance, Chong said a loudspeaker had been boardcasting the campaign message earlier since 4pm, but was later switched off so that he could address the media.
