YOURSAY ‘The Red Bean Army is the dumbest thing ever to come out of Umno.’
Utusan: M'kini perpetrator of 'stone age' journalism
Ferdtan: Malaysiakini has come of age when mainstream media such as Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia starts to criticise the award-winning online independent news provider.
The need to fear the influence of Malaysiakini , especially among its Malay readers - existing and potential - is valid.
There was one survey done last year by Yayasan Hal Ehwal Siswazah on undergraduates from the two top Malaysian universities. It revealed that Malaysiakini is the most trusted source of political news in comparison with other media.
Malaysiakini is the most frequently visited media outlet by students at Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). In UM, its popularity rate was 71.1 percent as compared with Utusan’s (24 percent).
Negarawan: Utusan 's readership is not even 10 percent that of Malaysiakini . Why is it surprising then that Malaysiakini has a huge funding? It is legitimate funding from an increasing number of paying subscribers.
Mushiro: But the fact is Utusan is losing readership, losing money but is supported by the government, while NGOs and government-linked companies (GLCs) are arm-twisted to advertise in Utusan - bit it has lost out in every field to Malaysiakini . And this happens in a non-level playing field.
Utusan was born in 1939 and Malaysiakini in 1999. Utusan has lost its 60-year advantage in spite of all the pampering, favouritism and advantage given by the Umno government. The blame goes to Umno and the Utusan management.
Basically: The Red Bean Army (RBA) is the dumbest thing ever to come out of Umno lackeys' mouths.
Everyone knows they pay people to write flattering things about them and slander others (remember that BTN-organised forum for Umno cybertroopers?).
But they just cannot fathom that other people do not need to be paid to write good things about the opposition, or to air their views about a dinosaur called Umno-BN.
Wg321: At least Malaysiakini gives space to Umno cybertroopers such as Ranjit Singh and Blackmoon to express their opinions in the readers’ comment column. Can Utusan give such space to the so-called Red Bean Army to express their opinions in their readers’ column?
From what they have written, we can gauge that these Umno cybertroopers have shallow thoughts. They cannot articulate themselves and they are only good in making personal attacks against their opponents.
Actually, these Umno cybertroopers provide interesting entertainment to readers of Malaysiakini . Their opinions, personal attacks, etc, against their opponents can be easily debunked by other readers of Malaysiakini .
Versey: In Malaysia, which newspaper company has "earned" the most number of defamation suits against it and have lost most of them?
Which newspaper was condemned by the court for "publishing unverified news"? Which newspaper drew condemnation from a foreign senator and ex-diplomat for unethical journalism?
Which newspaper has so poor readership that the leader of the ruling party has to call on GLCs to help out financially by advertising in the paper?
The media that fits in well with the above-mentioned is considered by discerning readers as junk paper. Such news media is obviously green with envy of the success of Malaysiakini
Despite having to put up with the authorities trying to muzzle it from truthful reporting, Malaysiakini has grown from strength to strength.
Awakened: Utusan has lost a number of defamation cases and has paid millions of ringgit. And yet editor Zulkiflee Bakar has the cheek to criticise Malaysiakini for wrong or inaccurate reporting.
Zulkiflee is also lacking in wisdom by describing Malaysiankini's fund-raising drive as a stone-age media.
Bricks are not stones and they are considered a great invention. Buildings and houses can be built with ease with bricks. More people can enjoy staying in brick houses, which are more resistant against wind, storms and fires. In the same way, with the new Malaysiakini building, more people can gain access to more truthful reporting.
This is a fact recognised by majority of Malaysians. What can Utusan show? The highest number of defamations suits?
Anonymous_1378093545: Malaysiakini , you have arrived, as the saying goes. Indeed, when the likes of Utusan display such unbelievable fear, you know you are on the right path.
You have played a very important role in opening the eyes of the lay folk who would otherwise have been totally unaware of what is actually transpiring in our beloved country.
You have shaped our thoughts. You are playing a major role in shaping the future of Malaysia. You have been fearless and we applaud you for your strength and fortitude.
You deserve a decent place to carry on your good work and if we readers can contribute a little towards that we are happy to do so.
Carry on as you have done so far - you are a beacon of hope in this plethora of discontent due to the corruption, injustice, wastage, etc, shrouding our country.
Laughable for Utusan to lecture on good journalism
