It is said an enemy of my enemy, is my friend.

In that vein, father and son DAP duo Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng today found themselves agreeing with arch-foe Dr Chua Soi Lek on his criticism of MCA's handling of the hudud affair.

Saying Chua, the former MCA chief, was right in his assessment that Umno is the key to derailing Kelantan PAS’ plan to implement hudud, the Lim’s challenged MCA to bring its fight to BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak.

In a statement today, DAP supremo Kit Siang said MCA leaders were cowardly if they thought that taking potshots at PAS and DAP would end the demand for the Islamic penal code in a secular Malaysia.

 

Turning the tables on MCA's argument that DAP had failed to leash PAS decades-long ambition to implement hudud, the Gelang Patah MP said that it was actually Najib who had spurred PAS on.

 

Lim said Najib did this two weeks ago when the latter said in Alor Star that the government has never rejected hudud.

 

"This was because what Najib said was not the original BN stand, and furthermore, violates an important BN principle that any change of BN policy must be the result of the consensus of all component parties and not unilaterally and arbitrarily by any one party, even if it is Umno," Lim said.        

He said this only revealed that MCA, the second biggest BN component, is too weak to influence Najib.

Missed opportunity

He added that current MCA president Liow Tiong Lai further missed an opportunity to protest to Najib recently when the PM made a very public invite to MCA to take up cabinet positions in government.

Meanwhile in a separate statement, Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng ( left ) said: “Former MCA president Chua is correct in his analysis to Malaysiakini, that Umno with the largest number of MPs (88) in Parliament, has the power to determine success or failure in PAS' attempt to implement hudud in Kelantan."

He further tore apart any notion that DAP would want to work with MCA to fight against PAS on hudud even if both were vehemently opposed to the notion.

 

"How can Malaysians trust a political party like MCA when its leaders are not even trusted by its past president and members?" Guan Eng said, referring to Chua’s attack on Liow.
