YOURSAY ‘According to Utusan , insulting PAS is insulting Malays and Islam too.’
Utusan: Insulting Umno insults Malays and Islam
Casey: How could an editorial of a major paper be so naive? And what a syllogistic distortion of fact.
Utusan Malaysia's twisted logic was based on:
1. the major premise that most Umno members are Malay and Muslim; and
2. a minor premise that DAP state representative RSN Rayer 'insulted' a few Umno members; and
3. a conclusion thus that Rayer had insulted Islam and Malays.
This kind of syllogism could only make sense to people who're mentally challenged. And even if the chief editor of Utusan is mentally challenged, and that he is a Malay, it does not mean to say all Malays are stupid. Indeed, far from it.
More and more Malays today are conscious of and have distanced themselves from the deceptive and deceitful Umno.
Justice Pao: The people in Utusan are all pea brain or morons which is why they do not understand the difference between a political party, human race and religion.
Umno does not represent all Malays as only a minority of Malays in Malaysia are members of Umno.
PAS is 100 percent Muslim and almost all Malays while Umno have bumiputeras who are Christians and from other religion. So according to Utusan , insulting PAS is insulting Malays and Islam.
CQ Muar: This is sheer bullying over a word I often hear and used almost daily when I was a little boy - among friends and even in school.
Our parents and grandparents were the initiator of the ‘celaka’ word and it meant nothing rude, insulting or crude until today, when it erupted to such unstoppable stage; even properties were damaged and state assembly premises were stormed.
To me, this is a deliberate attempt of making a "mountain out of a mole hill". Have we Malaysians descent to such level of animosity and hate? What had happened to those patriotic songs we used to proudly belted out in school and public functions?
Had endurance and tolerance taken such a backseat as to disregard acknowledging one another as brethren? Can't we look at the forest instead of the trees and not being so myopic for peace’s sake?
Pray such emotions and unhealthy sentiments will make a quick exit all for the love of this country.
Dr Suresh Kumar: As for the title of this Utusan editorial, I just called up a Malay friend of mine who knows very well my ‘no nonsense’ stand on politicians and asked her if I am offending her Malay status or Islam by criticising Umno and her short, to the point reply was "Utusan cakap karut".
I will continue to criticise Umno until such time Umno is no more and I will also respect and defend the Malays, Islam, the national language and country from thieves like Umno, MIC, MCA, PPP, Gerakan, etc and from liars like Pakatan Rakyat leaders Anwar Ibrahim and Rayer.
Swipenter: Utusan has been found guilty by the court numerous times for slander, lying and false reporting.
Since Umno Baru is the owner of Utusan , then according to Awang Selamat's logic and by extension, Umno Baru is an incorrigible liar, then also by extension all Malays must be liars too and since Malays are synonymous as Muslims in Bolehland, and that Islam teaches Malays to lie.
With this kind of editorial quality, it gives us very little reason to reject why Utusan has acquired the reputation as a toilet newspaper.
AA: The claim that insulting Umno Baru is insulting Malays and Islam is nonsensical for the simple reason that not all Malays and not all Muslims are members of the party.
In any case, no one can insult anyone who chooses not to be insulted. It seems that Umno Baru members are constantly on the look out for excuses to be insulted and have a fight. This projects a highly negative impression of the party leadership.
Onyourtoes: Just look around you, Awang Selamat. Hardly anyone has come to Umno’s defence except some extreme leaders within Umno.
If Umno does not wish to be criticised, please convert the party into a welfare or charitable organisation. Even NGOs nowadays are subjected to criticism for their partisan views on public issues, what more political parties.
Criticising and condemning a political party that is known for its incendiary ranting is not wrong.
That is this party that have constantly belittled, ridiculed and insulted the non-Malays for all the ills and shortcomings now prevailing in the country when the actual cause was its own corruption, incompetency and parochialism.
Old Timer: Utusan should be able to tell the difference between a political party, a race, and a religion. Mixing the three and equating the three as one is pure nonsense.
This cannot be used as an excuse for violent and thuggish behaviour.
