The federal and Selangor governments have set up a joint committee to specifically oversee logistics for the construction of the Langat 2 water treatment plant so that the construction can be completed "as soon as possible".

 

This is despite the fact that the state has not completed its takeover of all water concessionaires in Selangor, which is being done with the aid of the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry.

 

"Splash has not received our offer yet. But the minister (Maximus Ongkili) and I will go back to them and try to persuade them to accept," Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

However, Khalid said, the state is unlikely to increase the offer made for the takeover of Splash.

“If we give them more, the minister and I will have problems answering the concessionaires who have accepted our offers as to why we are giving more to those who refused to accept the offer,” he said.

Khalid said that the state is set acquire all the shares of Puncak Niaga, and a 70 percent stake in Syabas.

The joint committee its first meeting today, co-chaired by Khalid and Maximus.

The two governments are aiming for the completion of the water treatment plant by 2017 so that Selangor can be guaranteed a consistent supply of clean treated water over the coming years.
