Cabinet reshuffle another game of musical chairs

YOURSAY ‘Nothing will work unless they are all shuffled out once and for all.’

Zam: Muhyiddin a disappointed man

Headhunter: DPM and Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin was well-positioned to take over the PM’s post.

If only he had been smart enough to play the consummate diplomat by showing himself able to represent all races rather than to pander to the racists, bigots and extremists that he did.

There's not much difference between him and Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in that both of them had only shown themselves to be extremists and unfit to lead the country.

In spite of so many issues and complaints from the rakyat, all the Umno leaders play exactly the same politics of divide and rule - not one person wise enough to look at other options.

It looks like Umno president Najib Abdul Razak is secure in his position for a while yet. Umno at the moment is like a circus where the clowns are having a field day back stabbing one another while the country is sinking deeper into the abyss.

P Dev Anand Pillai: They can shuffle all they want, what do we the people get? Is there better governance, is there a better education system, is there less corruption, is the country secular, can the extremist be kept at bay?

Nothing works unless they are all shuffled out once and for all and the Malays realise that they too can make it on their own if they believe they can.

Nobody is going to take Malaysia away from them unless they themselves sell or hand it over to others. Unless and until the feudalistic neuron is erased from the mind, no amount of shuffling will bring any good.

Lionking: Any way that they play the shuffle, the impression is that all of them are not qualified for any of the posts. The way BN has ‘transformed’ this nation in the last 50 years should be used as a case study in political science curriculum in universities.

A very rich country with bountiful resources has been mismanaged for the last 50 years and the result - education standards that are at the bottom, racialism on the rise, discrimination, crime peaking, unbridled corruption and mismanagement shown in the audit reports year in and year out, cronyism at its best, rising poverty and homelessness, drugs for children, lack of confidence in the police institution.

Did we miss anything?

Fair Play: The truth invariably hurts, but it must be accepted. Besides, beggars (the right-thinking rakyat) can't be choosers.

The 13th general election (GE13) came and went and yet the status quo remains. Now, if the speculated chances would play out according to script, at least changes may come in baby steps.

Umno veep Hishammuddin Hussein, supreme council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin are, in reality, far better choices in a pool of limited talent towards national healing and unity.

Also, for the time being, there is no basis to judge the impending change until it really happens and action (performance of the said candidates) speaks louder than words.

No doubt, former minister Zainuddin Maidin (Zam) is a fair-weather friend. Now, he appears to  be apple-polishing the PM.

Seeing the writing on the walls, he started 'attacking' former New Straits Times chief A Kadir Jasin, who was a staunch supporter of Dr Mahathir Mohamad and still is.

Since GE14 is still a long way off, let's see whether the speculated changes, if they materialise, would meet the rakyat's expectations.

Fairnsquare: With so many differing views currently within the government, it is crucial that the PM consolidates the cabinet with greater unity in decision-making.

This will augur well for the nation and perhaps we will see a more active and participative leadership henceforth. Hopefully young talent like Khairy will be tapped.

Anonymous_4031: Speculation is always rife and overflowing when a major reshuffle is in the offing.

Note that the MCA and Gerakan presidents will be named ministers to put some face to BN as a multi-racial, multi-party coaliation. With their inclusion, Najib will show the world that he is fair to all components of BN; and rightly so.

With the reshuffle in mind, is this the right time to have some game of musical chairs? This game will mean that some ministers and even deputy ministers may have to give way for the newcomers and also it is the best time to re-assess the performances of the ministers.

Undoubtedly, Defence Minister Hishammuddin is prime ministerial material. Just imagine how well he performed at press conferences regarding the missing MAS MH370.

He showed the world that he is capable of fielding questions from international reporters and also anguished kin of the missing passengers. He showed his sincerity and empathy. So, a strong vote for Hishammuddin.

Blackberry: Only in Malaysia can you lose a plane and get promoted. In any other country, you would need to step down.

Stried: It is not Muhyiddin who is not happy - in fact every parent in Malaysia is upset at our education minister.
