Use of ‘Allah’ not meant to provoke Muslims

YOURSAY ‘Christians will accept the court’s verdict and take it at face value.’

CFM: Except for Herald, 'Allah' to be used as usual

Odin: Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, I will now try to drum it into your skull that right from the beginning of this case, the issue has been having to do with the using of the word ‘Allah' in the Malay language edition of The Herald .

The court decision has effect on the use of the word in only The Herald .

That being the case, Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) chairperson Reverend Eu Hong Seng is correct and is in no way being provocative in stating that the church will continue to use the word in their Bible, church services and Christian gatherings for Bahasa Malaysia-speaking congregations, as has been practised till now.

Anonymous_3ee4: Yes, only The Herald . Our prayers will go on as usual in churches, bible classes and everywhere else. The word will be used. The Christians will accept the court’s verdict and take it at face value. We are all peace-loving.

Peacemaker: Now that ‘Allah’ will be used in prayers and bible readings this coming Sunday in churches and chapels in the length and breadth of the land, what's Isma going to do about it?

Firebomb a few more churches? After all, nobody's going to pay attention to what a potential criminal (he's got a sedition charge hanging over his head) has got to say about what those Christians pray in the privacy of their churches.

Are they going to raid churches the way they raided the Penang Dewan Undangan Negeri?

Gerard Lourdesamy: Isma (Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia) can take its unsolicited advice and stuff it.

The decision is a gross miscarriage of justice. Christians would be willing to accept the judgment if it was ventilated after a full appeal and not at the leave stage.

It is astounding that the majority judgment decided to go into the merits of the appeal at the leave stage and determine that the Court of Appeal was right.

When constitutional issues are at stake it is customary to grant leave but today the majority judges in the Federal Court were swayed by their personal religious beliefs and standing within the Muslim community.

The CFM statement is correct. The religious extremists can burn our churches and bibles, arrest our priests and pastors and even bomb our congregations if they want to, but Bahasa Malaysia-speaking Christians will continue to use the word ‘Allah’ in their Bible and worship and the entire might of the state and religious bigots cannot stop them.

Waktamnoko: Why should anybody bother if the Christians were to use the word in their prayers? The Sikhs have been doing so for ages. And nobody really cared.

The only problem is when you chose a course of action that someone finds provoking. Then the other side will react as well. And where will it all end?

Anonymous_1399517796: Christians urged not to make provocative statements? It looks like Isma and Perkasa are the ones making provocative statements.

Lim Chong Leong: Christians must avoid being provocative but Isma has the right to insult and defame and hurt. This is Umno law.

Anonymous_4031c: Unfortunately for CFM, the Court of Appeal's decision binds all in Malaysia, including the attorney-general (AG).

The AG cannot conveniently for political expediency sweep the matter and say it’s confined to The Herald . This is patently wrong as any case coming up before an inferior court on similar issues will bind that court, including those in Sabah and Sarawak.

The government is in a dilemma now as it has to resolve this matter in a politically acceptable manner.

Earth: I am reading my Bahasa Indonesia Bible all the time. I don’t read the Bahasa Malaysia Bible because it’s troublesome.

You need sultans, judges, lawyers, ministers, Islamic NGOs, politicians, etc, to guide you how to read or how not to read it. There is no peace and joy in reading the Bahasa Malaysia Bible.

Anonymous_40f4: The Christians will continue to vote for BN like they have been doing all these years.

The injustices in this country started with the sacking of the Lord President Salleh Abas in 1988 and the fabrication of sodomy charges leading to the jailing of Anwar Ibrahim.

The church never commented on these injustices. Now the injustices have now come to haunt the Christian community.

Doc: Zul Noordin, Ibrahim Ali and their band of Muslim zealots get to feel good that they have defended Islam and the Malay ‘maruah’ (sense of dignity).

Premier Najib Abdul Razak can hope that he has made everyone happy and Malaysians will start "liking" him again.

BN component parties can do what they do best - nothing. And continue praising Umno for any and everything they do. Umno will do what they do best - run this beautiful country to the ground.

Fernz: The Herald and the church were barking up the wrong tree by focusing on the merits of the case rather than procedural fairness. The Court of Appeal and the Federal Court meanwhile focused on procedures.

Judicial review is trite law and is all about procedures. The Federal Court did not grant leave to The Herald and the church because there's no way that they can prove that the home minister did not follow procedures.

Aries46: So all this while the whole fuss has only been to use the word 'Allah' in The Herald ? Oh my god. Just for that? Why couldn't you have just consigned The Herald to history and started with Herald 2 ?

It may have kept you going for another couple of years at least. And then by the time they catch up with Herald 2, you can be ready to start with Herald 3 .

Gravity: What a joke. The Herald is not allowed to use the word but the rest of the Christian community is allowed to use it?

Arrogance breeds stupidity and these idiots calls it a victory for the Muslim community.
