The application for a stay of the Seremban Syariah High Court order requiring the police to give assistance to a Muslim convert father embroiled in a custody tussle with his former Hindu wife will be heard on Monday.

The application was filed by legal firm Zulkifli Yong Azmi & Co on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar and the police.

Lawyer Azmi Rais said the application was filed yesterday and the Seremban Syariah High Court fixed Monday to hear the application.

"Our firm has been appointed by the Attorney-General's Chambers to represent the IGP and the police in this dispute," Azmi said in a text message to Malaysiakini .

“The case has been fixed for hearing at 11am on Monday,” said Zulkifli Che Yong, the other lawyer appearing for the IGP

The Seremban Syariah High Court had previously issued an order to the police to assist in the recovery of N Viran @ Izwan Abdullah's children from his ex-wife.

Yesterday, Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail said he would file  the applications to intervene in two interfaith custody dispute cases involving S Deepa ( right ), who was married to Viran, and in the case of M Indira Gandhi in Ipoh, Perak, and apply for a stay of the court orders pertaining to custody.

Deepa had on April 7 this year obtained an order from the High Court in Seremban for the custody rights over her two children.

However, two days later, Viran snatched their six-year-old son after paying a visit to Deepa. Viran has since not returned the child. Both their children were unilaterally converted to Islam by Viran.

The Court of Appeal last month refused to grant Viran a stay of the Seremban High Court decision that granted custody of the children to his former wife.
