PAS has no choice but to utterly reject Zuhdi

YOURSAY 'But can we trust PAS ever again? Probably not.'

Zuhdi must apologise for 'racist' remarks, says DAP

Malaccan: DAP's national publicity secretary Tony Pua is correct to demolish PAS central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki’s strawman defence as no one denies it is PAS' right to discuss whether it should continue to be with Pakatan Rakyat.

Likewise, PKR and DAP can do the same. The focus is firstly on Zuhdi's suggestion to vilely betray its allies and team up with Umno to keep power.

Muslims abhor betrayal by allies in war, like how they were betrayed in Medina. Zuhdi promotes similar betrayal in political struggle, if not in war.

Secondly, Zuhdi justifies his suggestion on betrayal with the goal to suppress minorities and deny their constitutional rights.

He is exposed as a bigot and extremist and his position as a high-level leader in PAS as well as part of the party's think-tank that influences policies, require PAS to either support him openly or reject him utterly.

Zuhdi's shameless attempt to say he is only speaking for others but not himself is self-serving. Perhaps Zuhdi should share the rest of the WhatsApp messages, and out other bigots and extremists while saving the rest from ignominy and slander.

Boonpou: I wish there are more Zuhdis in PAS so that they would leave Pakatan and join Umno. I can't wait for that to happen. The worst thing about being in a coalition is when it is actually an inconvenient marriage.

PAS does not seem to share the same coevalness (time and space) with PKR and DAP. People like Zuhdi and others like him within PAS should not only unite with Umno but start working with Perkasa and the like.

Fernz: Pakatan works because Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is the glue among its three component parties and because there's complete understanding among the leaders of the parties in the coalition - PKR's Anwar, DAP's Lim Kit Siang and Abdul Hadi Awang of PAS.

By Hadi going off at a tangent on the Selangor MB's post, he risks Pakatan as an alliance trying to create a two-party system at the federal level as well. For this to happen, power must change hands in Putrajaya at least once.

At present, the two-party system only exists at the state level in certain states viz. Selangor, Penang, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Terengganu and Sabah.

CQ Muar: Malaysiakini commentators have clearly made their points. They represent the voice of all, unequivocally and unanimously. They will not accept an apology from the racist Zuhdi.

Therefore, the message is simple and clear: We want this betrayer and extremist out of Pakatan; and PAS must do the needful to preserve its good name as a coalition partner of the opposition.

Failing which, PAS must consider the alternative - quit Pakatan.

Kuasa Rakyat: Without stern disciplinary action against Zuhdi by the PAS leadership, can we trust PAS ever again? Probably not.

Not Smart: I wonder where Zuhdi obtained his doctorate from. The language, reasoning and comments used in his WhatsApp message were atrocious.

Indeed, I wonder how such people can administer/manage the government if they come into power.

Ferdtan: Think for a second: who leaked the bigoted WhatsApp message by Zuhdi? I believe it is from the opposing faction, the moderates, to put the conservatives on the defensive.

We know PAS president Hadi's decision to support Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to be retained as Selangor MB is only a ruse in the internal party power struggle between the conservatives and the moderates/progressives.

The battle is between the conservatives led by Hadi and his ally, the Kelantan MB, Ahmad Yaakob, now also acting chief of the PAS ulama wing, and the progressives led by deputy president Mohamad Sabu (Mat Sabu).

In the last party election, the conservatives lost badly and they now want to make a comeback. So they create a crisis in Pakatan as Mat Sabu's faction seemed to work well with the other coalition leaders. It is good that this incident brought the matter to a head.

We still have time to change strategies and alliances before the next general election, even if we lose Selangor to a BN-PAS unity government now. Call it whatever you want, but this is evolution through the cleansing of bigoted leaders from Pakatan (with or without PAS).

This is a kind of soul-searching ordinary PAS members must undertake. They have to decide which coalition they want to be part of - BN or Pakatan? The ball is in your court. You, the ordinary PAS members, decide.

Daniel: Right before 2008, it was more than a nagging suspicion that many Malays in PAS and PKR think along that same line. When the shove comes to a push, the 'ketuanan' and the Islamist mentality reveals itself.

Ginie: Pua, there is no need to ask for an apology. When Zuhdi wrote that analysis, he had a personal agenda and evil intentions. He thinks he and his family can live in peace if there are racial troubles in this country.

May Allah and all the gods bless and guide this nation from all selfish and glory-seeking politicians.

Retnam: There is no need to apologise. Apologise for what? Zuhdi definitely believes in what he said. If he apologises, it doesn't mean he does not believe it anymore.

Face it, DAP. PAS is like Umno. They don't like non-Malays. We will have to live with it.

‘Perhaps better to cut PAS loose and move on’
