Even criticising court decisions deemed seditious

YOURSAY ‘Surendran has been very vocal and hence his arrest is not a surprise.’

Anwar's lawyer arrested for sedition

Kim Quek: So now, the Sedition Act has become the all-powerful magic wand that can be used to defeat all and sundry from the enemy camp.

At the accelerated rate this Act has being used recently (number of times used in past year probably exceeds accumulated total of preceding three decades), Umno can wipe out its entire enemy without much fuss.

So, former PM Mahathir Mohamad, aren’t you premature in saying that PM Najib Razak is hopeless?

Anak, Bangsa, Malaysia: PKR vice-president N Surendran has been very vocal and hence his arrest is not a surprise.

Umno has instructed its members nationwide to make police reports against Surendran. This is totally an abuse of the police power. I strongly condemn this barbaric act.

SayaM1: This is an outrage! Why do they fear Surendran so much that they have barred him twice from the parliamentary sitting, keep harassing him every time he makes a statement and now this sedition charge.

Don’t they want to hear what the rakyat's MP has to say? Could Surendran be headed the same way as P Uthayakumar of the Hindraf fame?

Vijay47: Leaving aside the promises made by Najib, promises nobody expects him to keep as he has never kept any promises he made, the law and the procedures that go with it have not been honoured in Surendran's case and in fact discarded with callous impunity.

Only a few days ago did the IGP (inspector-general of police) and that miserable AG (attorney-general) preach about how fairly they enforce the law, and add to this the protestations of that equally obnoxious deputy prime minister that non-Malays are treated more kindly when it comes to execution of that law.

In any other country, except perhaps Zimbabwe and North Korea, I would have said, "Yes, come on, see you in court." But in Malaysia, that would be foolhardy confidence.

Yet there is a silver lining here - Mahathir and his mouthpiece A Kadir Jasin, formerly chief of New Straits Times , should be pleased that at least in this matter Najib is emulating the master.

Guns 'n' Roses: Puchong MP Gobind Singh, since when has this 'illegitimate' PM ever kept his words or promises or even pledges? His promises have become a national, perhaps even an international, joke.

Kangkung: Umno's police 'abuse of process' is nothing new. They are the judge, jury and executor. And more importantly, they are above all laws. Umno's police can act with impunity.

Sa Tombs: The PRDM (Royal Malaysia Police) shows its true colours, where an individual saying that Selangor is " Darul Babi " is allowed to roam free and maintain his position as a lecturer in the National Defence University.

Did he not insult HRH of Selangor or are the Attorney-General's Chambers and the PDRM reading his utterances with tainted spectacles?

Quigonbond: It's interesting how this comes up right after what appears to be an increased chance of success in Kajang Move.

They couldn't take the Selangor MBship, so the next best thing they can do is to punish Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and this is a convenient way of doing so.

Fernz: Why sedition? It should be contempt of court.

Dr M lost patience with Najib, says ex-NST boss

Vijay47: Kadir Jasin, much of what you said centres around the fact that Mahathir helped Najib in his political career.

In rapid promotions, Mahathir bestowed upon his protégée, it would seem that deservedness had no role to play, it was always for services in the past and expectations in the future.

Selective grooming and elevation is no stranger to Mahathir. He could write entire libraries on the subject and how he managed the NEP (New Economic Policy) is unassailable evidence of this.

In your true toady manner, you lament that your master is disappointed with Najib. Do you need to be reminded that the entire nation is disappointed with every prime minister we had, except Tunku Abdul Rahman and perhaps Hussein Onn?

Sirach: I'm no admirer of Najib. Quite the contrary. But I think Mahathir should keep his opinions to himself and not undermine Najib.

Such conduct only confirms the perception of Mahathir as the supreme egotist. It shows that he never really wanted to leave office, hoping all the while to play puppeteer to whoever happened to be PM. This man should just fade away.

Mushiro: Kadir Jasin is just confirming that Mahathir is not objective, not wise and not sincere in nurturing future leaders. Mahathir practiced nepotism and is influenced by emotions when picking future leaders for the country.

This is again confirmed by Mahathir's pick of Najib and his son, Mukhriz.

Old Timer: This is just an announcement that Najib's days are numbered, and DPM Muhyiddin Yassin is going to be next PM, and Mukhriz is the next DPM.

Mahathir has written this script long ago.
