U-turn, roundabout and PAS' many flip-flops

YOURSAY ‘Why don't they submit all 42 (minus Khalid) Aduns?’

PAS snubs Anwar's plea, insists on two names

Asitis: A consensus agreement, or whatever you call it, means nothing at all to PAS. It can agree on one thing one day and turn around the next day and do something else totally different.

And this is the party which is supposed to be representing Islamic values. Does Islam teaches one to break an agreement one has committed to when the agreement turns out not to be to one's liking?

Any person who has a basic sense of right and wrong do not need religion to know that it is morally wrong to do so. Even if one feels that the agreement does not benefit oneself, because one has committed to it, one cannot just go against the agreement as one likes.

Those sanctimonious leaders in PAS who made and break an agreement as they like do not even know the basic code of honour and morality.

FellowMalaysian: Why is PAS adamant and insisting this time around that they will submit two names, which went against their earlier decision (not to submit any name)?

PAS had revealed that its leader Abdul Hadi Awang had met the Selangor sultan after being summoned on Aug 1. It must have felt obliged and beholden as they had been called upon by the sultan to help solve the MB imbroglio and PAS would be seen as causing an affront against the sultan had his wishes not been met.

PAS should not feel obligated to the sultan because the palace had not explained why PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's name was not acceptable when she was jointly proposed by all three parties of Pakatan and when she had clearly commanded the majority support enough to elevate her to the MB’s post.

In fact it could be seen as PAS having condescended to the royal's wishes should they proceed towards submitting the two names and as a consequence, making a mockery of themselves in turning around from their earlier decision.

Ferdtan: Pakatan has only a few days before Sept 3 to submit more than one name to the Selangor palace for the menteri besar's post. PKR and DAP have decided and now we are waiting for PAS to decide.

Speculations and rumours are rife that PAS may pull the rug from under Pakatan's feet with an agenda of its own. From all logical angle, PAS cannot do much harm to the Pakatan government as the Wan Azizah's group forms the majority made up of all the representatives from PKR, DAP and the two PAS members siding with them.

However it is telling that PAS, which is controlled by the faction led by Hadi together with its secretary-general Mustafa Ali, are not in the least concern with the fallout with its partners.

It is as though they were on a warpath with PKR, using rather undiplomatic words not expected of an ally.

On the other hand, the ever optimist Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is restraining himself by not hitting out at PAS directly.

He still harbours hope that in the next few days he can meet with his sympathisers in PAS. Everyone is waiting to see if he and his friends in PAS can pull a rabbit out of the hat and announce a unified consensus.

Our only fear, and in Malaysia anything is possible, Hadi with the support of remaining 13 PAS representatives, outgoing (how I love that word!) MB Khalid Ibrahim and Umno gang up together to take over Selangor government.

All they have to do is to 'entice' support from at least four traitors, either from PKR, DAP or to get the two PAS members, to return back to their fold. That could well be the plan as Mustafa seemed to be talking tough.

If the moderates from PAS want to checkmate Hadi's 'Umno's agenda' and neutralise him, then get a few more PAS representatives together with the previous two to declare they will support only one name, Wan Azizah's.

That will be the straw that breaks the camel's back - both Hadi's and Umno's.

Jiminy Qrikert: PAS will submit two names. Which two names? One surely is Wan Azizah but the other name?

This MB issue is now such a hot potato, no Adun (state assemblyperson) wants to be snared by it. All of PKR and DAP have pledged to support Wan Azizah.

So no one is going to break ranks now as it will mean the end of their political career. Their party will hang them. The rakyat will mangle them.

PAS has righteously proclaimed they will not submit any name from the Islamic party even though the entire nation knows Hadi is itching to grab the MB’s post. So they can only propose PKR candidates but if no one will accept the nomination, PAS is left looking really stupid.

PAS keeps shooting their mouth off as if the second candidate will fall from the sky into their lap for them to submit his or her name. Stupid as stupid gets.

Anonymous_1398660923: Mustafa, can't you humbly decline to submit any name but to support whatever name PKR submit to the Royal Highness?

Isn't showing meekness, loyalty to people and abiding by gentleman's agreement kind of behaviour a better Malay ethic than hypocrisy, betrayal of voters, being a back-stabber of your partners?

You choose to snub Anwar's plea now and don't you regret when we, the voters will let you and your kind taste hundred or thousand folds of your own medicine in future elections. Don't you forget that God is great and evil will never triumph over good.

Negarawan: I hope the state assembly will be dissolved. Let the Pakatan components decide if they can still work together. Otherwise, split up and PAS soon will know how many seats it can win.

Many non-Muslims will not support Pakatan as it is, with PAS included. PAS has shown itself to be untrustworthy. I will vote for BN rather than Pakatan (with PAS) as it is the lesser of two evils.

Pputeh: Let PAS submit as many names as they want. The question here is, can the others beside Wan Azizah have support in the state assembly?

Anyone else will not have the support and so the assembly will have to be dissolved and Selangor will see elections again, unless this has been the plan all along.

Rick Teo: What’s the point in submitting more than two names when the other names don't have majority support in the state assembly? If the sultan chooses one that doesn't have majority support, it will make the sultan very foolish.

Awang Top: Why don't they submit all 42 (minus Khalid) Aduns (more than two names) to the sultan? The sultan is wise enough to choose what is best for the rakyat.

Body is with Pakatan, but heart is with Umno
