The Home Ministry has confiscated more than 300 copies of PKR's party newspaper, Suara Keadilan, throughout Kedah.

According to the party organ's online version, Keadilan Daily , copies of the newspaper were confiscated in raids around Alor Setar, Kuala Kedah, Jitra, Pendang and Kepala Batas.

The 189th edition of the PKR publication bore the front-page headline 'Sedition Act: Muhyiddin proved Najib's lying'.

It also carried another article on PKR's insistence that party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ( left ) should be the next Selangor menteri besar.

Alor Setar PKR organising secretary Peter Jayabalan, who was among those distributing the paper, was quoted in Suara Keadilan saying the raids were conducted in groups.

"It's a futile effort as information will still reach the rakyat, even if they keep confiscating over and over again," Jayabalan is quoted saying.

No permit

When contacted, the Home Ministry's publications and Quranic text control division secretary Hashimah Nik Jaafar said the PKR newspapers were confiscated because Suara Keadilan has no permit.

Hashimah also denied that the papers were confiscated because the government was afraid of developments in the country.

"No, it is not because of that. The papers have been continuously confiscated since last year as it ( Suara Keadilan ) have no permit," she told Malaysiakini .

Suara Keadilan has been operating without a permit after the Home Ministry refused to renew the party organ's publication permit last year.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a written parliamentary reply in July last year, accused the newspaper of being "reckless".

Zahid also listed Suara Keadilan 's move to publish, in 2010, a document supposedly protected under the Official Secrets Act 1972 as among the reasons the ministry refused to grant the permit renewal.
