Mat Sabu throws down the gauntlet at ulama

YOURSAY ‘For the first time, the moderates/liberals have come out in the open.’

Walk the talk, PAS No 2 tells party clerics

Ablastine: Mohamad (Mat) Sabu, if you become PAS president, Umno will pee in their pants because PAS candidates will win many more seats than now and Pakatan Rakyat will be able to trounce BN even with all their gerrymandering.

Let’s face it. It is now pretty clear to most people that PAS chief Abdul Hadi Awang is no more than an Umno stooge. His mission is to split PAS and Pakatan by getting the Islamists in PAS to join Umno.

Even if he does not succeed by the next GE, supporters of Pakatan will not vote PAS under Hadi because it does not make sense to support a party which sooner or later will go sleep with the enemy.

Ferdtan: PAS deputy president Mat Sabu, thank you for your thoughts which strike a chord with all the supporters of two-party system; meaning BN on one side and the other, Pakatan.

We would very much like PAS to be part of the Pakatan coalition to make the opposition complete but it cannot proceed with this unresolved mistrust among the partners.

PAS must come clean, making an aggressive move to prove that they want to be in Pakatan bloc. Mere statements from PAS leaders meant nothing. Based on Hadi Awang’s many turnarounds, who can trust the words of PAS leaders anymore?

The ulama faction by their words and actions showed clearly they wanted to leave Pakatan. So with the equally strong ulama faction, as against the moderates, how do we know who are actually in control of the party?

Therefore, if nothing is done to stop the ulama faction, then it is better for Pakatan to go without PAS. There is no stopping that in future the same situation may not arise.

Mat Sabu, you and the other moderate PAS leaders must do something real for once. Stop playing the ‘apologists’ for the ulama faction for their many faults. The party clerics are certainly beyond reproach.

Rakyat-in-Grief: Kudos to Mat Sabu for calling the attention of the party leaders of the need for changes for their political survival in the current scenario.

They should by now realise that extremism will not be accepted by the present world. See how the whole world including Muslim countries are grouping together to destroy Isis (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria).

So change your attitude before it is too late. People can't live on this earth with prayers alone. Please learn how to co-exist with people of different ideologies. Live and let live, brother.

ConstitutionIsSupreme: Spot on, Mat Sabu. Most religious people talk a lot about religious values and upholding religious practices, be they Muslims, Christians, Hindus or Buddhist, etc.

But when one compares their words with their actions, more often than not, the more vocal they are about religion, the more hypocritical they are.

All religions teach their followers to be good, honest, ethical and love thy neighbour. So judge for yourself who genuine religion followers are and who use religion for their own interest.

Haveagreatday: Mat Sabu, judging how Hadi is behaving I believe it is imperative you remind him of the universal values of honesty and being moral in one's dealings.

Hadi's back stabbing of the Pakatan's MB candidate in Selangor is a real shame for him who lays claim to being an ulama.

Hopeful123 : Mat Sabu, your mention of the Japanese is the most admirable one ("If the Japanese proclaim Allah is God and Muhammad the Prophet, they would be the best of Muslims automatically, because they are already practising anti-corruption, cleanliness and are always on time.”). It applies not only to Muslims but to all other religions.

Practicing what is recommended in the religion makes us more disciplined and acceptable. You need not even follow any particular religion for that.

RZC: Mat Sabu’s straight talk is great. But what use if it falls on deaf, racist and bigoted ears? Are you still going to continue talking only?

We need people like you to rule. But you can't do that if every time you take one step up, your party pulls you two steps down.

Kathleen Ong: I’m sorry that Mat Sabu, Husam Musa, Khalid Samad, Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Dzulkefly Ahmad are all stuck in PAS.

These are all exceptional characters in an unexceptional position. My hope is that the universe blesses them always with abundant positivity.

Anonymous_3f8e: Mat Sabu has been consistent in his views. For the first time, the moderates/liberals have come out in the open.

It is time we all have a choice of Malay political leadership. It is apparent the leadership in Umno has refused to recognise the messages from GE12 and GE13. Folks want a corrupt-free government, never mind Malay leadership.

PAS should offer themselves in place of Umno. Many are waiting.

Keturunan Malaysia: American civil rights leader Whitney Young once said (quote):

“I am not anxious to be the loudest voice or the most popular. But I would like to think that at a crucial moment, I was an effective voice of the voiceless, an effective hope of the hopeless."
