PAS ulama belong to past, have no future

YOURSAY 'Progressives in PAS can adapt to changing circumstances.

Muktamar fails to heal PAS, death knell for Pakatan

Fair Play: The heading, 'Muktamar fails to heal PAS, death knell for Pakatan' is very misleading and did not highlight the reality that PAS is facing. They cannot have one leg rooted in the past and another trying to move forward to the future.

End result; it’s heading to nowhere. From my perspective, it is the death knell for the PAS ulama faction within PAS. If the muktamar faction were to leave PAS and join force with PasMa to turn the NGO into a political party, PKR and DAP would be more than happy to invite them to form the new Pakatan.

And progressive PAS members know they have no future in the present PAS. But where would the PAS ulama be?

Competing with Umno in the rural heartland where they would be annihilated in GE14 at the state and federal level is the most likely outcome.

The new Pakatan will hold the hope of all right-thinking rakyat. Perhaps, a truly two-party system like what we see in the UK and USA would finally emerge. Ever the optimist, I am looking forward for real change.

Mushiro: It was a total confusion at the PAS muktamar and big time rhetoric for PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his pom pom boys, complete with slogans and vests. Nothing meaningful was achieved.

The Muktamar did not discuss how PAS lost Kedah and who is responsible but the muktamar did plan and strategise PAS' role for Pakatan to lose Selangor.

This was clearly decided by Hadi and the syura council and will be executed soon. Hadi also exposed his true un-Islamic character in branding the two state assemblypersons as 'pimps and being bought' but yet did not furnish any proof.

Some like Mat Sabu and Hanipa Mydin, braved the boos and tried to bring in some sense but most of the delegates were fully decided on which side of the line they stood.

Watchtower: PAS has said it, and the rakyat has to move on without them. I don't see how PKR will be able to work with them and get support from the rakyat.

Even if we have to wait for a 1000 years, we will never want our leaders to be dishonest, manipulative, have no integrity, and show disregard for the rule of law. We all respect our rulers - they are there in our country as a symbol of peace and pride in our heritage.

The law of this country is supreme and the rulers together with the government of the day have pledged to uphold the laws, and we the rakyat will honour and respect our rulers and leaders.

Cocomomo: Pakatan has to reorganise. Hadi has fallen into Umno's trap. Congratulations to Umno. The people of Malaysia want change for the better. A definite no to so-called religious leaders like Hadi who talks religion but in words and actions, is anything but a person who follows true religious principles.

BN must be very happy with the current developments. Pakatan has to reassess the inclusion of PAS and cast out self-serving religious and racist bigots. Hadi has damaged Pakatan but Pakatan must reorganise and rise above this setback and come out stronger for good of the country.

SSDhaliwal: Clearly PAS is a party lost at sea with a self-serving Hadi at the helm. It is time for PKR and DAP to make a decision for PAS and leave them out, as many Malays and most, if not all, non-Muslims will never vote for PAS again. As it stands PAS will only be a liability to PAS and DAP.

I WONDER?: It is very clear now Hadi still wants PAS to slip out of Pakatan to become the third force itself, despite still murmuring it is not leaving Pakatan. Hadi's closing speech marks the beginning of PAS treading on thin ice, on the route of political suicide.

Tukar Tayar: This the death knell of PAS. PAS will be a mosquito party. DAP will never support PAS. Chinese, Indians and non-Muslims will never support PAS. There will an election in Selangor. The seats won by PAS will lost to Umno.

This is what Umno is waiting for. Hadi is not looking at the whole picture. He wants a total Islamic state and country. PAS can dream on. Don’t take non-Muslims for fools.

Sorry for Anwar, he suffered for Pakatan unity. Umno will take over Selangor and that is for sure. Then PAS will pay the price. Umno and PAS are miles apart in ideology and only common in religion.

Unless PAS change their ideology and accommodate corruption and misuse of power then Umno and PAS will have common ground and they can shake hands.

Myrights: "If PAS' candidate is chosen and Hadi remains insistent on the position, it would mark the beginning of a possible disintegration of Pakatan, as its partners will see it as a clear act of betrayal."

You mean the partners (DAP and PKR) still do not know they have been betrayed by PAS (specifically Hadi and his ulama gang) yet?

The betrayal is already a foregone conclusion by now. Even if the sultan were to choose PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, which is a near impossibility, the fact that PAS did not even submit her name is already a clear act of betrayal.

The fact that Hadi refuses to support PKR and DAP in the ouster of Khalid is already a clear act of betrayal. How many more signs are needed?

Hank Marvin: The truth is the success that PAS enjoys now has been due to the vision and hard work of the Erdogans. The welfare state was one of their ideas that have convinced many non-Muslims. But somehow the ulama faction thought the success was due to them.

Doc: PAS is like a broken down nuclear reactor where its core is heating up and is on the verge of blowing itself to bits. And when it blows the deadly radiation it spews can be devastating for Pakatan.

From where I stand, I can only see one possibility to avert a total PAS meltdown. A split maybe needed in PAS. PAS is like two oppositely charged particles, a proton and an electron or in this case a pro-Pakatan, younger and progressive thinking PAS and the narrow minded , kampung mentality cleric group which like a proton and electron, are pushing against each other from within, with different ideals and directions.

If a split should occur the forward minded PAS faction can then align themselves with Pakatan and hopefully seize Putrajaya while the kampung minded clerics can be go on ruling Kelantan like they have always done, the kampung way.

Kim Quek: Hadi’s speech: Talk, talk, talk, a lot of cursing and condemnation. But where is logic and rationale? It is completely void of substance to exonerate his treasonous conduct other than invoking God for his defence.

Instead of reconciliation, he has shockingly revved up his abusive conduct. Hence, whatever decision the sultan makes on the MB appointment, it doesn’t alter the fact that PAS’ position in Pakatan will be untenable, as long as Hadi continues to dominate the party.

And yet there was no indication from what has transpired in the muktamar to deduce that Hadi could be sidelined any time soon. This, unfortunately, is the unpalatable prospect currently facing PAS, and Pakatan.

OH YA?: The Selangor MB crisis is an eye opener for the urban voters. They should know by now PAS is controlled by a bunch of archaic, authoritative, sexist, turban-wearing ulama who are no better off than Umno's ultra-conservatives.

They are still living in their small little fiefdom and are totally out of touch with the modern world. Other than their obsession with hudud laws, they know next to nothing, nor do they have any clue or vision as to how to develop this country, strengthen the economy, and bring it to the next level.

Just look at their muktamar, the president's policy speech is devoid of any policies of substance and the delegates' debates are centre on factional interests.

Little wonder that they had lost Terengganu and Kedah and would have lost Kelantan only to be saved by the young voters returning from the urban areas. It is daunting to think of the voters entrusting their fate and future to these people.

Sleepy: If PAS wants out of Pakatan, is actually good news. Pakatan is stronger without PAS. Losing Selangor is like losing a battle, not the war. Change strategies and continue the fight.

Concerned1: Pakatan will not disintegrate, just reorganise with a new PAS or a PAS substitute. And it will emerge stronger.

It is just a process of maturing and purging of incompatible elements. It may be a blessing in disguise in preparation for GE14. Pakatan, go for it.

Hcleong: I have cast my past votes to Pakatan and PAS for the option of a new government. Now I will not give my vote to PAS and don’t mind going back to BN.

I don’t want PAS any more.
