Nightclub blast opens a new Pandora’s box?

YOURSAY ‘It is time for police to spend more time looking for real criminals.’

Car jockey in Bukit Bintang nightclub blast dies

Ferdtan: It is now a bit clearer that the blast was possibly the result of gang fights. The mere fact ‘bombs’ were being used is frightening. It could be worse, not that this is not bad enough, if the blasts were from home-grown terrorists who had volunteered fighting in Syria and Iraq.

Once that were to happen then Malaysia will not be safe anymore. More copy-cat bombings may follow - purportedly in the name of religion. Malaysia would be declared unsafe, and tourism will suffer as a consequence.

The government may use the ‘fear opportunity’ for political purpose to propose a new law, adding on to their existing discretionary detention power, to ensure they remain in power. More opposition and civil activists against BN government may be silenced and detained without trial.

We hope that that day will not come. It is time for the police to spend more time looking for real criminals rather than investigating supposedly seditious offences by people who criticised the BN government.

Get the many hundreds of Special Branch officers away from their computers reading private citizens’ Facebook comments, tweets, WhatsApp messages and blogs for evidence (comments against the BN government) and frivolously charge them for sedition.

It is very surprising, shocking maybe, when an innocent private tweet circulating among a few friends from an ordinary Malaysian gets attention from our national police. Their priority is all wrong.

Vijay47: One poor soul dead and 12 others injured may seem minor when weighed against the toll from improvised explosive device (IED) explosions elsewhere but for Malaysia, it might well spell the opening of an unimaginable Pandora's box.

That a nightclub, serving alcohol, was targeted may be a coincidence but this could encourage the lunatic fringe to engage in similar acts of devastation especially when clearly illegal and incendiary proposals are viewed with fatherly tolerance by the authorities.

As Minister in the PM’s Department Nancy Shukri and attorney-general (AG) Abdul Gani Patail have suggested for our enlightenment, threats of violence and rampage are permissible if in the defence of the Islamic faith.

Such dangerous inclinations in a multi-racial and multi-religious Malaysia should have been ripped out at the very first hint but nobody responsible cared to take a firm stand. On the contrary, we were treated to a "boys will be boys" and "nobody has been slapped yet" excuse.

It looks like terrorists in our country need not tote AK47s or rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), just the Umno badge will do.

Umno Portal: Things like this do not happen overnight. What has our intelligence agency been doing?

Negarawan: This is truly shocking. Let's pray for those who have been injured that they will recover. In the meantime, the IGP should get his priorities right and focus on crime and terrorism activities, and not sedition probes and non-Muslim child custody cases.

Even banned fireworks cannot be controlled by PDRM, how to control terrorist bombing?

Hang Tuah PJ: Anyway, Sun Complex is very close to the Kuala Lumpur Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) headquarters at Jalan Hang Tuah. (No, I don’t live near here).

And the Bukit Bintang area is teeming with Arabs and South American, more Arabs though. Pity the tourists who were injured.

Doc: Bomb blast! Small issue lah . Please don't try and distract our super-efficient PDRM from sorting out cases of national importance like rounding up all the opposition politicians for causing trouble to Umno by highlighting their corrupt activities, those standing up for justice as well as those accusing our PM of misusing the sedition law.

100% Truly Malaysian: Oh My God (OMG), this is scary. What has happened to our security? Our country is flooded with snatch thieves, kidnapping of civilians and even police personnel in Sabah, guns, drugs, prostitution and now bombing in Kuala Lumpur. What next? Bazookas?

Will the police act at lightning speed? Will our "strong willed" IGP promise to find the bombing culprit till ‘lubang cacing’ as he vowed to do in sex blogger Alvin Tan's case?

Mamadias: This is how all starts. First easy entry of illegal migrants, followed by local gangs and foreign smugglers getting together to do illegal business, then the gang fights and now explosives.

Isana: PDRM, please call Anwar Ibrahim in for questioning. He might be the brain behind the bomb blast. After all, he is the cause of all ills in Malaysia. Indeed, Perkasa, Isma and Umno will vouch for it.

Swipenter: Gang-related or hate-related bomb blast? Time will tell and it won't take too long to find out.

Rayte: Maybe the authorities will say since the bomb is targeted at a ‘tak halal’ nightspot deemed to be involved in immoral activities, no further action is required as the act is merely to protect ‘some’ religion.
