If Anwar 'immune to law', why is he facing jail?

YOURSAY He has been in prison for six years and could do time again if appeal fails.

Umno man: Crack down on Anwar campaign

Fair Play: Cheras Umno division leader Syed Ali Alhabshee hibernates through the season and only surfaces during Umno election time to give it a go again, to try to salvage his political career.

But this guy really cannot think. He said Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is not a special person who is immune to the law. If Anwar is immune to the law, why was he convicted in the first place?

Jiminy Qrikert: Syed Ali, Anwar Ibrahim is a special individual, a very, very special individual. He suffered six years of incarceration to emerge a stronger man, far stronger than anyone Umno or BN can offer. He is the leader of 52 percent of voters in Malaysia who chose Pakatan to be the government in GE13.

Anwar was the true catalyst who was able to fire the imagination of the rakyat to believe that we can have an alternative government to BN.

Anwar has set the foundation for the two-party system. Now what we need to do is stand in solidarity with him and follow his lead from inside or outside of prison.

Labis Guy: Just watch, when the Umno election is around the corner, you will find many empty vessels making noise. You know why - trying to get attention and hoping for a place in the council.

If you have substance, you don't have to make noise. But more will be coming out to make noise. Just wait and have a good laugh.

Concern Ctzen: Yes, there must be an end to hate politics. But we must ask ourselves why Malaysia has come to this stage. Who are the people spreading hate messages around?

We really hope that all Malaysians live in peace and harmony, instead of making all kinds of racist remarks and raising hate in the people. Hate politics must end. May God help Malaysia.

Dr Jacob George: They are so paranoid, so obsessed with this one man, Anwar Ibrahim, despite all the issues in the country that are pertinent - from racism, corruption, abuse, militancy, terrorism, polarisation to bread-and-butter issues. It's unbelievable - shocking and rather stupid. Go get a life, people.

Peacemaker: Najib's transformation programme? His determination and sincerity in wanting to champion the interests of all races?

Explain this quote from Najib - "Chinese, don't demand from us when you vote DAP/PR" .

Explain why many Indians born in Malaysia have yet to get identity cards but Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Indonesians are able to get ICs and voting rights?

What is so criminal about the 'Rakyat Hakim Negara' campaign? Which one is a security threat - PKR Youth's campaign or freely giving out ICs to intruders?

Which one requires urgent attention - this campaign or the rising cost of living? Which one is a national security threat - ths campaign or the Islamic State (IS) recruitment of fellow Malaysians?

Whatsup: What do these violent people have to be afraid of? All machinery has been mobilised to ensure Anwar will never lead our country, despite securing 52 percent of the popular vote. So, why the need to be violent and telling the police what to do, Syed Ali?

The Analyser: Now, maybe Malaysian Muslims can see how fine the line is between Umno-style fanatical hatred and IS-style fanatical hatred. If this guy is the Cheras Umno division leader, I'll leave you to guess how many of his supporters would also support IS.

Patriot1: "Nobody can question the judiciary?" In a democratic country, citizens can question anybody and anything they want. It's just that the questions must be rational. Has any crime been committed for the police to carry out a crackdown? What kind of MPs are we having?

Hank Marvin: Obviously this is mob rule; Umno telling the police what to do. It's not the law that guides the police but right wing Umno.

Malaccan: It is ironic that Syed Ali should say Anwar is not immune to the law, since Anwar has faced continuous persecution through repeated legal charges and personal slander for many years.

It is further ironic that Syed Ali would jump to the defence of the judiciary when the IGP and various Umno officials are safe from prosecution for their public disdain of the judiciary.

It is even more ironic when Syed Ali speaks up for Malay unity when his own party is responsible for stratifying Malays into the elite rich, such as Umno leaders and their cronies, and the desperately poor, who include the families of many Umno foot-soldiers.

And yet we will probably see some action as Umno warlords are allegedly able to sway the authorities to act according to their whims, as reports on the current sedition sweep show.

Jaycee: "Nobody can question integrity of judiciary…" Please then, explain why the two policemen who confessed to blowing up Altantuya are set free.

Baiyuensheng: Malaysiakini is a bit biased here. Why use this ugly and angry photo to communicate your message? Use a calmer one. I think your message can still get across. Don't be so dramatic. People can tell.

Tpn: Syed Ali, ask the police to arrest the hooligans who constantly create unrest in Penang first. Don't advise others.

Ketuanan Rakyat: The police now take orders from an Umno division leader?

GI Joe: Shouldn't the police be busy tracking the bomber at Bukit Bintang or patrolling our neighbourhoods instead of being used by these money wasting fellows?

Not Confused: Syed Ali needs to open his eyes, ears and less mouth when it comes to issues of freedom of speech and association. Umno and its lame followers like him shout and complain when anything involving the opposition is organised and any speech involving any criticism of BN.

BN/Umno can do whatever they like, and no one says anything and no police action is taken. Syed Ali: Just go back to whatever it is you normally do and keep your big mouth firmly closed. The rakyat will protest and complain whenever they feel it is necessary.

HOPE: Anwar? Immune to law? Syed Ali is a very confused man
