The Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang plans to visit the Cameron Highlands on Wednesday to ascertain pressing issues that have arisen, said State Secretary Muhammad Safian Ismail said today.
A long-term plan was in the pipeline with regard to restoring the agricultural and resort area, Muhammad Safian said, adding that the plan would be announced by Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob.
At the same time, he said, 26 evacuation centres have been set up in Cameron Highlands to accommodate 2,600 people.
Muhammad Safian said this in a press conference after chairing the state disaster committee in Kuantan this afternoon.
On the flood situation, he said it might not be as severe as the flood that hit low-lying areas in the state, but the area remained vulnerable to mudslides and landslides, with continuous rain.
He called on the state Fire and Rescue and Minerals and Geoscience departments to identify areas susceptible to landslides and flooding, especially at mining areas.
