Friends of Khoo Kok Ann, who was charged for criminal intimidation in a case of road rage on Tuesday, insist that he has a friendlier side.
Referring to him as ‘Hurricanemax Joko’ in Facebook posts, his friends instead urged detractors to ask what sparked his outrage.
They also listed out his good deeds, describing him as a philanthropist.
“(He is) a good man who lost his cool in the moment of stupidity,” a friend, who goes by the name Cops Subang Jaya on Facebook, said.
“Find out what made him do this…Let’s look at the big picture of the person concerned (instead),” he said.
Others said that he is a philanthropist who has helped rehabilitate elephants and raised funds for a mosque, and does not deserve the social media frenzy.
“For a man to so lose his temper that he would attempt road rage? Of course what he did was wrong.
“But what was the first wrong that prompted the second? Has anyone stopped to ask that question?” an anonymous Facebook user said.
Helped elephants, mosque
Khoo was charged after photos of him allegedly harassing road user Alisa Thean went viral on social media.
In the photos, Khoo had spat on Thean’s car windscreen and bent her car wiper.
Thean claims he did so after she honked at him for driving recklessly.
She also claimed that Khoo had banged on her window and bent her side mirror.
Meanwhile, Razin Ong, a fellow superbiker who claimed he has known Khoo for two decades, said Khoo “never loses his cool whenever he rides”.
He added that Khoo was also known in the biker circles for helping to retrieve the body of a fellow biker in Thailand.
“He is the ‘coolest’ biker, who never rages whenever we rode together.
“His anger is his mistake. However, he is no road bully. He is a good man, and we know this,” Ong added.
Khoo was charged with criminal intimidation and mischief for by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to two years, or fined, or both.
