The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has criticised Malaysia Airports Holding (MAHB) for the manner it had constructed the KLIA2 airport.

In its final report on the KLIA2 project tabled in Parliament today, PAC said MAHB had disregarded the interests of its main client, Air Asia, and did not consult any government agencies before coming up with design changes to the airport.

"MAHB, despite being given such a long opportunity by the government to manage airports in Malaysia, clearly disregarded the interests of its main client, a low cost airline," the report stated.

It also called for an audit to be conducted on MAHB and the KLIA2 project, to further identify the discrepancies.

The report further suggested the formation of a civil aviation commission that is "truly independent".

"The commission must comprise people who do not have vested interests in any aviation companies or had held government positions related to the airline industry," it added.

Meanwhile, DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, at a press conference, said the PAC report proved that his allegations regarding the KLIA2 project since 2012 were valid.

"I urge the new Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai to read every sentence of the report and make necessary remedies," he said.
