Where leaders can be seditious with impunity

YOURSAY ‘Was it one mentally unstable person or was it a whole community?’

'Chinese burned Quran', Mashitah turns up heat

Tholu: Using a possibly insane person's act to instigate racial and religious discord and hatred among the races in this country is a very irresponsible, baseless, vengeful, seditious and malicious act of an intolerable, xenophobic and dull witted person.

How are the Malays to progress if all that happens in the Umno assembly that convenes once a year and which is expected to debate ways on enhancing the economic, educational and social standing of the Malays, only focuses all its time and opportunity on bashing the non-Malays and non-Muslims based on self-imagined but non-existent threats and so-called challenges by them (the non-Malays and non-Muslims)?

Casey: This is a mass behavioural phenomenon of "monkeys in the cage" where participants are expected to accept a whole mythology of miracles and mumbo jumbo.

If a lunatic or a person of unsound mind of Chinese descent burned the Quran, it doesn't mean that "the Chinese community burned the Quran".

Similarly, even if the alleged burning of Quran was carried out by a group of Chinese lunatics (which I seriously doubt), it doesn't mean the "Chinese community in Kuala Kedah burned the Quran page by page during a prayer ritual" as related by Baling Wanita Umno chief and Deputy Minister in PM’s Department Mashitah Ibrahim.

If such a despicable act did indeed occurred, it must be the work of an evil cult - unheard of in the teachings, culture and religious beliefs of the Chinese, or for that matter any other races.

Vijay47: What a pitiful woman Mashitah must be. She has proven beyond doubt the quality and nature of Umno leaders who are appointed to any position in the government.

For her political expediency, she deliberately played to the gallery and whipping up the crowd, conveniently neglecting to mention that the man who supposedly burned the Quran was mentally disturbed.

Is this the depths to which Umno members would sink to merely to score political points?  Was there nobody in the hall noble and proud enough to demand that she stop at once since what she was screeching about was only bringing shame and contempt to her own race and religion?

And the cunning witch she is, she did not say "a Chinese man". No, that would not have been inflammatory enough; she had to say "the Chinese community".

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, what's that you were saying just three days ago about being sensitive to our friends?

Tentarik: Mashitah should make a police report if she has proof that a person has burnt the Quran. The police should follow up and investigate whether what she reported was true or not.

If found to be false, she should be charged for making a false report. The police must be serious and not take such irresponsible report lightly.

Anonymous_3e86: Was it one mentally unstable person or was it a whole community that burned the Quran? Is Mashitah adding salt-and-pepper to the reported incident?

If the community did burn the Quran, make a police report and let the police handle it. Don't make accusations which are untrue. It amounts to sedition.

Waile: Is this Umno annual general meeting (AGM) really akin to august House? Why does it seem to me they can say whatever they want, absolutely anything and everything, regardless?

BTN: As long as you are in Umno you are safe to say and hurt other people’s feelings. No action will be taken. If this type of statement comes out of the opposition, the Sedition Act will surely be used.

Standup4malaysia: Twisting and turning the truth seems to be a prerequisite for Umno leaders who are ever prepared to sacrifice racial harmony at the altar of political expediency.

Kit P: The idiocy of such Umno leaders is truly amazing, using lies again and again for political gain. The Chinese Taoist community burn prayer papers as offerings to the dead, as well as other kinds of prayer papers as offerings to deities.

This has nothing to do with the Quran. An isolated case of a mentally disturbed man burning whatever he wanted to has nothing to do with race or religion.

ACR: Time and again, we have said that this Umno AGM is an annual fest of demagogues who talk rubbish with not a single debate of any value to this nation's many problems.

To add to this insult, the media hogs this garbage and report pages on it and the TV news channels allocate substantial time to cover it.

Now, given this publicity, the monkeys there should be held to account for their slander and seditious acts. This imbecile deserves a sedition charge.

Chee Hoe Siew: Do they know the consequence of their action? This is such an irresponsible bunch of people and I really ponder if anyone here can really trust them with our country's future.

Odysseus: The key words are "Chinese community". Was Mashitah trying to incite hatred towards the minority community?

Now, it's time for PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) to check the recording and initiate their own investigation and submit their findings to the attorney-general (AG).

Should we guess how the AG will interpret her intent?
