Low, didn't Najib want to repeal Sedition Act?

YOURSAY ‘How do you justify an act devoid of integrity, Minister of Integrity?’

Paul Low: You're wrong, Mr vice-president

Lamborghini: Paul Low, you are the one who has got it wrong. You are on the wrong side of justice and integrity and therefore your perspective have become skewed and prejudiced.

It is plain to all right-thinking Malaysians to see that the Sedition Act has been wrongly and selectively used to silence the opposition, especially in recent months.

Those in BN and government can blatantly utter seditious words publicly and get away scot-free, while those who fight for justice are charged.

And when PM Najib Razak promised to abolish it publicly, he said it was an archaic law used by the British. How come something deemed archaic two years ago suddenly become so important and relevant?

How can the rakyat continue to have faith in a flip-flop PM? Low, isn't this a lack of integrity that you so were brought into the cabinet to address?

How do you justify an act devoid of integrity, Minister of Integrity? Please search your own conscience and don't just become a BN mascot and parrot. Have some dignity and integrity yourself.

Ian2003: Yes, the Sedition Act protects everyone but its enforcement only protects certain well-connected people.

We'll consider accepting the Act if first and foremost, Baling Umno Wanita chief Mashitah Ibrahim is charged for claiming that the Quran was burnt by non-Muslims and Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali charged for various past incitements.

Ib: Everyone can see it plain and simple how the Sedition Act has been used so the truth will remain the truth no matter what ministers Paul Low or Khairy Jamaluddin say.

The citizens of Malaysia are not stupid and the Americans are not on the other side of the world. They are in Jalan Ampang at the US Embassy and they can see what all Malaysians see.

Limfly: Mr Paul Low, we don't need to look at the past. The present abuse of the Sedition Act to silence anyone who opposes or is critical of the BN government while letting off the real perpetrators because they are pro-BN is clear enough that the retention of the Sedition Act is for wrong intent.

The rakyat expect nothing less than for the Sedition Act to be abolished.

VinceLim: The way I see it, some people are still immature in expressing their views. That's why we still need the Sedition Act. It will be repealed when we are ready. So tell this to the opposition and their supporters.

Thana55: VinceLim, the 'immature people' were all recently in town for their annual racist and rent-seeking fest in PWTC (Putra World Trade Centre).

They included their friendly pressure groups like Perkasa, Isma, etc. Just ring fence them and we will be a peaceful, happy, united and prosperous country again.

TakeMiddlepath: Well said, Thana55. That's how I felt too. If no action was taken against those who spew hatred against the non-Malays, don't tell me the Sedition Act is for national unity. It's for Umno’s own survival.

Just look at those who were investigated under the Act - most were from opposition who spoke the 'truth'.

Now those in Sabah also better watch out because they are going to use the Act against those talking about their state’s rights.

Odin: Paul Low, it is obvious that position, prestige and pelf - I'd presume you know what ‘pelf' means - can devastate and decimate whatever integrity someone once has had.

By the way, did they say you are a Christian? If they are right, then you have brought utter shame to Christianity and Jesus.

FellowMalaysian: If Paul Low's opinion is right that this monstrous Seditious Act was not used to curtail opposition voices, why were numerous leaders from Pakatan Rakyat parties recently charged under this very Act for expressing their views?

Low ought to be squirming in shame expressing his support for a nefarious law which Najib has just demonstrated in a most efficient manner how it was used to quell opposition voices into submission.

For his about-turn in his opinions since becoming part of Najib's cabinet, Low's integrity and reputation has nose-dived into oblivion. He is there only for the minister's perks as no one ever listens to him.

And that includes his fellow cabinet ministers as they are wary of his moves as he was himself criticising the government vociferously not too long ago.

Mushiro: Najib himself suggested to abolish the Sedition Act as an election promise before the last GE.

Obviously he was pressured by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Perkasa and the Umno extremists to make a U-turn. Being weak in his position, Najib had no choice but to agree.

And what is the justification of the Sedition Act when it was never used on any of the Umno people or Perkasa for their racists, fanatical and religiously inflammatory statements.

This Sedition Act will be used only on opposition leaders, in short as an unfair advantage to win the next elections.
