YOURSAY ‘Sarawak doesn't want you and neither does the rest of the country.’

CM's Office bars Ridhuan Tee from entering S'wak

Oh Ya?: Sarawak CM Adenan Satem's action in barring controversial academic Ridhuan Tee Abdullah from entering Sarawak is most welcomed.

But will he also bar Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of religious matters Jamil Khir Baharom or even former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, both of whom are racists, from entering Sarawak too?

Sa Tombs: At last, a Sarawak chief minister who shows impartiality when it comes to racists and bigots. Rather than getting embroiled by the issue, he nipped it in the bud with a ban on Ridhuan.

It’s a pity that our minister of home affairs and the PRDM (Royal Malaysian Police) do not share Adenan’s views on the matter.

Tembikai: How stupid can the imam of the Lundu District mosque in the Tanjung Datu state constituency is (to invite Ridhuan)?

How can he trust someone who does not have the proper Islamic credentials to give a talk at the mosque? Let alone, this man has been accused of being a plagiarist.

The latest episode involving his son's SPM results being manipulated smells fishy.

He left the National Defence University because he cannot take the heat of his plagiarism case. Unfortunately, not only UniSZA (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin) took him in, but he was promoted to professor.

Where in the world can you become a professor so easily, except in Bolehland?

Fairnsquare: This ultra-kiasu man thought that once he converted to Islam, he would be considered a bumiputera.

Sarawak doesn't want you and neither does the rest of the country. Instead of using his position to promote goodwill between the Chinese and Muslims, he drew a wedge between them.

Now neither the Malays nor the Chinese respect him.

Liujinzhong: We can always counter Ridhuan’s views by promoting and defending the opposite.

By supporting the barring of him from Sarawak for his views, we allow those in power to silence any citizen at will. This is far more damaging.

We should take the opportunity to demonstrate to those in power that what we really want is a free society where fundamental rights of citizens are guaranteed.

We are indeed ‘louder’ when we support the rights of someone whose views we do not agree with.

It’s time PAS remembered the Kelantanese

Malaysian 53: Thank you, Malaysiakini’s Zakiah Koya, for this insightful piece. We welcome your bravery in standing up to these religious zealots and saying it as it is.

I hope the majority Malay Muslim community will stand up and be counted. It is the silence that makes these minority extremists feel theirs is the only voice to be heard.

Hudud is being implemented by fallible humans who have made many mistakes, time and again. Recent history is littered with such instances that many Middle East countries have abandoned hudud and others are struggling with it.

This is not a trial-and-error project to test PAS politicians’ popularity.

Fairnsquare: Yes, a well-written article by Zakiah. If polygamy, one aspect of Islam, cannot be implemented fairly, how can we expect hudud to be implemented fairly?

Undeniably, many a non-Muslim has resorted to convert to enjoy the ‘benefit’ of polygamy, at the expense of the non-Muslim spouse.

Many of my Muslim friends have suffered injustices when their parents embraced polygamy resulting in the more recent family members controlling the family wealth, etc.

Polygamy was necessary during the time of the Prophet when women numbered many more than men, who were killed in battle. To ensure the widowed wives and their families were cared for by the surviving men, this practice was allowed.

But in the modern world, this has become a fringe benefit for those converting to Islam. I wonder how many 'benefits' hudud will bring, especially when four witnesses are needed for a conviction. We need to progress, not regress.

Hank Marvin: Hudud, like all the religious obligations, can be implemented. But it has to be planned carefully and obviously hudud needs strong foundations.

The funny thing is PAS doesn't even have the blueprint of syariah implementation that provides the framework for hudud.

From Penang: Excellent article by Zakiah Koya. To add, PAS is too simple minded and look at things they like it to be.

There are so much more they could do to improve the lives of Kelantanese.
