YOURSAY ‘The proxy fight against Mahathir supporters is to isolate Mahathir.’

PM taking the master head on, says Zaid

Ferdtan: Indeed it is exciting times, as tweeted by former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim as the fight is looming between Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s faction and PM Najib Razak’s.

In the beginning, Najib played it cool with the many criticisms from the ex-Umno strongman, not daring to take risk in irking him.

Former PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who played ‘dumb’ all the time with him learned the hard lesson when he lost the fight by resigning before his term was due.

This time, Mahathir cannot have it so easily. Najib, though seen as weak and indecisive, is not Abdullah. He is a shade better. As an incumbent, Najib is strong. Judging from the existing Umno divisions, most are with him.

The pre-emptive strike was directed at Mahathir’s able loyalist Daim Zainuddin. He is now been investigated for corruption with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim lending a hand by declaring he has concrete evidence.

Obviously the proxy fight against Mahathir supporters is to isolate Mahathir, and it is working. Another Mahathir loyalist, former minister Zainuddin Maidin has chickened out, afraid of facing threats and pressure in his old age.

This had been Umno’s practices since the days of Mahathir’s premiership; using the repressive state apparatus like the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate (as a warning to toe the line) and using commercial banks to withdraw loans, etc.

Aren’t Anwar’s two sodomy trials just that? Mahathir, what goes around comes around. Now it’s your turn.

Datuk Iskandar Shah: Those who think or have ambition to topple Najib are just dreaming. Najib has sound footing. He has done his homework and continuously doing his homework.

No one, neither Mahathir nor Daim, can shake him. He has the charisma and strength and had a very good team to look after him. DPM Muhyiddin Yassin is nowhere close to troubling him. Plus there is no one now in Umno capable of replacing Najib.

Najib knows where he stands and knows his job. Do not underestimate him. All he has got to do is to veer away from racial politics and avoid people like Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali.

I think he is on the right track and slowly and surely he will sink those who seek to sink him. He already trying to regain the support of the Indians and he is cautious in going all-out to help them lest he will be betrayed by the right-wing who are waiting to pounce him.

Abasir: The House of Umno has been ridden with termites for years. The pests have indulged in a feeding frenzy devouring everything silently.

While it looks alright from the outside, it is really a hollowed-out structure, beyond fumigation and just about ready to collapse.

Najib ignores the 'elephants', trumpets Pua

Truth Prevails: Najib should listen to what opposition leaders Tony Pua and Rafizi Ramli and many others are saying and should engaged them to chart out a real economic map for this country to survive the present and future economic crises.

Najib must realise that he only has fools around him who cannot contribute anything to better the economy. So get help fast from the people who can help.

Mushiro: Yes Tony Pua, Najib prefers to read out his prepared text in the comfort and protected zone of invited guests, friendly NGOs, ever-ready-to-clap BN MPs and obedient civil servants.

Healthy debates are not Najib's culture. Here Najib can avoid super sensitive 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) issues, national debts, flood funds, the continuous leakages and the many unnecessary mega projects.

Indeed, Najib prefers to be heard and not to be questioned.

Mosquitobrain: Two nights ago, I was watching Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong (LSL) having a dialogue with a group of journalists speaking on the 50th Anniversary Singapore.

I listened attentively to the questions plainly and clearly put forward by those journalists to LSL. It was amazing, LSL took those questions thrown at him, ingested them and replied them with humour in between (like senior Lee) with ease.

Pragmatic, sincere, consistency, in touch, sharing and always with the people is what I am trying to say here.

Najib, you are snobbish. You have the right venue, the Parliament, not Putrajaya to put forward the revised Budget.

You are voted by the people. Pakatan MPs are also voted by the people. In actual fact, they (Pakatan) have more popular votes that your BN.

The Analyser: This sort of behaviour shows just how fragile the concept of democracy and the Westminister system of parliament is.

All it takes is a bunch of cowards to destroy the system - one to undermine the system and 14 million to stand back and watch.

For years, Umno has used fear and violence to control the cowardly Malaysians and now it is reaping the rewards of our inaction.
