The residents action group Say No To Kidex (SNTK) has asked highway concessionaire Kidex Sdn Bhd to justify its claims that it has fulfilled all the preconditions for the controversial project with Putrajaya.

"Kidex Sdn Bhd has not fulfilled federal requirements or state preconditions of this project.

"The very act of calling for a press statement and subverting facts implies that they are disingenuous in their actions," said SNTK representative Mak Khuin Weng in a statement today.

Mak ( right ) cited reports of Works Minister Fadillah Yusof saying on Dec 11 that Kidex will not get a further extension if they do not fulfill the requirements as set out by the concessionaire agreement.  

These include the preconditions stipulated by the Selangor government for the thorny Kinrara Damansara Expressway (Kidex), which the latter has said has not been met.

"The federal government has already given them an extension till the February 15 to fulfill all necessary conditions, including holding a town hall meeting.  

"Thus, SNTK are entirely justified in asking the following question - by what mechanism does Kidex Sdn Bhd state that they have fulfilled the federal government requirements?" asked Mak.

He was responding to Malay Mail Online yesterday that quoted Kidex chief operating officer Shaharizuan Shafiei saying, “We have fulfilled all the requirements. However, there remain some issues."

MP gives rally thumbs up

SNTK is planning to stage a rally in Petaling Jaya tomorrow at 10am to oppose Kidex and another controversial highway Damansara Shah Alam Highway (Dash), both of which are to cut through densely populated residential areas.

Yesterday Petaling Jaya Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian ( left ) said he "applauded" SNTK for voicing their concerns with the rally, reminding that Selangor MB Azmin Ali had the latter's budget speech outlined the preconditions for Kidex.

These, said the PKR lawmaker, were the necessary impact reports, full disclosure of the proposed toll rates and future increases, public disclosure of the concession agreement as well as a full public hearing.

"I’ve always been  consistent in my stand that Kidex should be abolished, and that I’ll continue to exercise the authority bestowed to me, internally or externally, to oppose Kidex," he said in a statement.

He blasted BN party MCA for criticising the Pakatan government over the federal project, when MCA is a major partner in the ruling party who can get Putrajaya to halt it.

"Contrary to the statement made by BN/MCA Petaling Jaya Utara division, the Selangor government has not make a decision on Kidex.

"In fact, it is the federal government that had approved Kidex, granting it a 48-year concession.

"If BN/MCA is honest in its intention to oppose Kidex, the party could use its role as a junior coalition partner to ‘whisper’ to the PM; and get the federal government to retract the decision," said Hee.

The PKR leader stressed Pakatan Rakyat is clear on the need for public engagement for such massive infrastructure undertakings.

"I’m confident that MB Azmin Ali will abide by the wishes of the Selangor public," he added.
