YOURSAY ‘If you want to survive as a political party you’ll have to unload Hadi.’

Sorry, Mr PAS President, I beg to differ

Onepen: YB Mohamed Hanipa Mydin, my thanks for your persuasive and brave stand on the issue of local elections.

Your stand seems to stem from the belief ‘berani kerana benar’. It’s good for Malaysians to have a PAS leader like you to help us achieve our dreams. Thank you for standing up to your boss.

Sali Tambap: Beautiful. Well said, YB. I’m glad to have read this highly intelligent piece. It is lawmaker like this that makes us feel proud and fills us with hope.

FairMind: Yes, a well-researched article by the Sepang MP. This is what the rakyat expect from an elected representative; not the half-past-six and irresponsible types like PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang who shoots from the mouth.

In fact, the rakyat are more afraid of corruption, bad governance, wastage and inefficiency than someone of a different race occupying the local government.

Anonymous_3f6d: I like this statement by Hanifa: "So long Malaysians elect any Malaysian in any local government's election, we should not be unduly worried. Let such unwarranted worrisome feelings be reserved to Perkasa, Isma or Utusan ."

Abasir: This well-reasoned statement by Hanipa is the kind one would expect from a self-acclaimed reformist like Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

While one understands the balancing act a leader of the opposition has to perform to hold a loose coalition together, it is important that he steps out on an occasion such as this to state what the 'reformed government' he is marketing would do to give the people a voice in the management of their affairs.

In that respect, he failed to seize the moment, choosing instead to play safe , ala Umno.

Jiminy Qrikert: The only reason why the leaders of the dominant race in Malaysia, a race that is at least two times larger than the next largest race, should be averse to losing out the leadership initiative to leaders of that numerically inferior race is the fear that should it ever happen, the current Malay leadership believe that they could be proven to be outperformed in every aspect, shown to be incompetent by comparison and revealed to be less than absolutely honest when they should be squeaky-clean.

The current Malay leadership is the old foggies who are unwilling to hand over the reins to the young Malay leaders who are showing up the old farts for the humbugs they really are.

It is time for Anwar to step aside since he does not have the guts to say it as it should be said - that Hadi is a racist and Pakatan wants no part of him.

Bamboo: Hanipa has pointed out correctly the warped thinking and logic of Hadi. Is PAS not for efficient and corruption-free governance?

As it is, appointed local councilors have led to inefficient and non-accountability of local government with wastage of funds for unnecessary uses like frequent change of landscaping plants and gaudy decorative lights instead of improving the roads and ensuring cleanliness.

Talking about race, wouldn't it be better that a good cat can catch the mouse instead of worrying of what colour the cat is?

Basically: Don't just beg to differ, Hanipa. If you are serious in working for the good of the rakyat, then you and your kind should stand up against Hadi for his undemocratic behaviour and for acting in ways that is only keeping Umno in power.

Talk is useless. Hadi is bent on destroying Pakatan. Even if PKR/DAP give in and keep working with Hadi, who would vote for someone like him who may harbour the secret desire to take over as PM if Pakatan ever wins?

Nobody in his right mind would, meaning, PAS is a lost cause unless your members act decisively to save it from being destroyed by Hadi and his ulama gang. It's really your call.

Anonymous_1416272691: As I see it, I believe that these spat of late by PAS is a prelude to PAS joining BN.

It is the best time since Umno is at its weakest and since PM Najib Razak now needed an ally to bolster his influence and maintain his position in Umno and BN.

Anonymous #33227154: What's wrong with Chinese or Indian councillors? They are Malaysians and what's important is they're able to do a good job.

Is Hadi saying that only Malays are fit to be councillors? Indeed, Hadi reeks of racism and extremism. PAS is gone case under him. He's better off with Umno.

Hearty Malaysian: Hadi and minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan are typical opportunistic if not irresponsible politicians who want to feed on the warped logic that the country can only be stable if Malays are in charged.

Democracy is built on elections but for a majority race to fear dominance by a minority race is illogical to say the least. What is wrong for a non-Malay to be elected at any level of democratic administration?

2Kali5: I’m glad we still have people in PAS who are intelligent and think logically. Hadi, who shoots off the cuff like a cowboy, should be put to pasture.

Notwithstanding your self-concocted worry based upon racially lines, please do your homework on the racial composition of all the urban councils before you spit rubbish from your big gap.

Rakyat-in-Grief: Calling all moderates in PAS - if you want to survive as a political party you have to make a hard decision to unload Hadi from your baggage before he ruin your political ambition.

You will never make it if you keep him at the helm. He has proven time and again that he is not a politician. His May 13 thread clearly exposed his Talibanism.
