Princess huffs over footie dog banner, 12 held
Police detained 12 football fans for displaying a banner of a dog wearing a suit with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) logo at a Johor Darul Takzim vs Pahang match on Saturday.
Police detained 12 football fans for displaying a banner of a dog wearing a suit with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) logo at a Johor Darul Takzim vs Pahang match on Saturday.
Johor FA confirmed this while Pahang crown prince’s consort Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Iskandar, who is also the FAM president’s wife, huffed over the matter on her personal Instagram account.
In a statement, Johor FA said the 12 fans are remanded for five days for investigations.
They will be banned from any Johor stadium if found guilty of "displaying an inappropriate banner against the FAM", it said.
"The Johor FA will not tolerate any form of provocation.
"We strongly urge all the supporters of Johor Darul Ta’zim to protect the good name of the club and heed the mandate of HRH Crown Prince of Johor to be professional fans," Johor FA said.
Johor FA's chief marketing and media officer Ahmad Yani Ismail later clarified that there was a "miscommunication" and that the 12 were released after giving statements on the same night.
Tunku Azizah on her social networking account said that the banner was "insolent and rude (biadap dan kurang ajar )".
"As someone born in Johor and now living in Pahang, and whose husband is the president of FAM, I am embarrassed by the actions of Johor football fans. This is my only comment.
"Rude and insolent. My father did not teach me to behave that way," she said on her Instagram account @tengkupuanpahang today.
Her father was Johor's Sultan Iskandar Ismail al-Khalidi.
However, the posting was removed later in the afternoon.
The large banner which spread across the bleachers showed a man with a dog’s head holding a puppy while wearing a suit with FAM's logo on its breast pocket.
A thought bubble showed that the dog-headed man was thinking of "RM".
No remorse
The princess and Johor FA’s rebuke was, however, not heeded by Johor fans.
A screenshot of the Tunku Azizah’s Instagram posting was reposted on a Johor FA and Johor Darul Takzim FC fan page with a caption ridiculing the princess for taking it personally.
"This is only the beginning. Next time, make fair decisions," it warned.
"Insolent and rude is better than being a basta**d ( bangsat ) forever."
On Jan 17, FAM fined Super League champions JDT RM100,000 for violating M-League transfer rules, when it tapped national midfielder Gary Steven Robbat from Pahang.
JDT was also fined RM30,000 last year for failing to provide security at Larkin stadium, resulting in the assault of T-Team players and a coach, allegedly by a high-ranking Johor FA official.
Last Saturday’s Charity Shield match doubled as a Super League match, and saw JDT beat Pahang 2-0.
