A pact of common cause, not common ideology

YOURSAY ‘PAS is definitely out of sync with Pakatan's manifesto.’

Pakatan’s Mexican standoff

Haveagreatday: Strange world? Terence Netto, I think it is also a tragic and sad world we Malaysians live in.

There's so much promise in what our country can be but sadly we have been burdened with that unshakeable shackle that is the Umnoputras, who have misruled the country and lorded over our decline that has yet to see the bottom.

Disgusted: PAS is definitely out of sync with Pakatan Rakyat's manifesto and the desires of the electorate.

Most Malays/Muslims are afraid of the rise in Islamic extremism and the harsh syariah laws that have been imposed in countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and other places.

One look at nations controlled by these extremist governments suggests only one thing - there is no joy for the people living there, only suffering and oppression and human rights abuses, especially for women.

Do the Malays and Muslims want that to happen here as well? Only they can decide whether they vote for parties that want to impose hudud and syariah laws on them. We live in the 21st century, not in the 1st.

The best solution is that Pakatan leaders get together and resolve who should stay and who should quit the coalition. My answer is PAS, PKR and DAP should stick together.

Myviews: Pakatan is not a registered entity. So, PKR and DAP can just make a public announcement to work together and cut PAS off. But why are they not doing it?

People, let's get real. If indeed PAS is cut off, there is a real danger it will team up with Umno and if that happens, it's goodbye to a better future for Malaysia.

The Umno-PAS alliance will have sufficient numbers (two-thirds majority) in Parliament to change the country's constitution at their whims and fancies.

Then why is PAS hesitant to leave Pakatan and team up with Umno? That’s because PAS is not confident it will not be played out again by Umno.

Besides, PAS knows its strength is only in Kelantan and some rural pockets around the country. The last GE winnings in urban and mixed areas were helped by the non-Malays as well as progressive Malays.

For Pakatan to win GE14, the only way out is for the moderates in PAS to quickly take over and oust the conservatives in their own party. Pakatan must remain as one entity for the time being.

FairMind: It is correct that Pakatan is not a registered entity. It is a coalition of a common cause with no common ideology.

Therefore, it is only logical any party that is out of sync with this cause does not belong to this entity and automatically leaves the coalition.

If hudud is implemented, then a coalition with Umno becomes a possibility.

Tok Karut: It would be more credible if Netto had sought PKR's position. He is keeping PKR out of this muddle because there is simply no direction in PKR on this.

Well Thats Fantastic: Pakatan = DAP + PAS + PKR, so PKR will need to choose who they wish to keep.

I hope there are enough intellectual moderates in PKR to boot out the PAS fanatics and find a way to absorb the PAS moderates into the coalition.

Malaytoo: DAP, PAS and PKR, all of you are childish, immature and irresponsible.

The majority of the rakyat had put their trust and voted for the three of you as a coalition, hoping and believing that you are politically mature enough to rise above petty quarrel, able to sit and discuss like leaders and have the rakyat in mind rather than your individual ambitions.

If you cannot find a real compromise that all three can honour, then don’t just "agree to disagree".

Decide once and for all whether to stay as coalition or not. Bite the bullet and let the rakyat decide later through the ballot box.

All these public dares are just to show who has the bigger guts. Honestly, it is getting sickening by the day.

Anonymous_1419577444: It best that Pakatan be dissolved and each go their way. They will never rule Malaysia even if they win the GE.

The current leaders in PAS are bent on rewriting the country's constitution and imposing a medieval law on the masses.

And DAP has the Lims who have power going into their heads.

The Analyser: It's not up to the parties involved to make the choice. Whatever they decide will be irrelevant.

The decision-makers will be the voters. My thinking is that the voters have already decided, and that's another reason for the party's to procrastinate. They already know the outcome.

PAS grassroots hold party’s future in their hands
