Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Aziz today defended himself against critics, saying that he knows his father the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat better than anyone else.
He said this in response to criticism that Nik Abduh, who is Pasir Mas MP, appeared to be advocating a unity government between PAS and Umno, unlike his father who spoke against it.
"You only knew my father through political speeches and his political activities. You only saw this side of him.
"You were lucky to gain political knowlege from him, but I learned about life from him," Nik Abduh said in a Facebook statement.
He said Nik Aziz, who died last month, often advised him to not concentrate on hitting out on Umno or to focus on politics when speaking to others, but to impart spiritual knowledge.
"I know my father and he taught me not by hitting out at Umno or BN. I know my father also did not teach the people by incessantly hitting out at Umno and BN...
"(My father said): "When a society is knowlegeable they will know why we oppose Umno. We can just say it once and they will understand. To oppose Umno is to impart knowledge, and eventually Umno will be gone"," he said.
Nik Abduh is under fire for being critical of other PAS members, and not being as harsh against Umno.
Sinar Harian reported that the PAS central committee member said there were groups in the party who are allegedly more loyal to Pakatan Rakyat than PAS, and these people are "barua" (lackeys).
