Not only Jho Low, others must account for 1MDB

YOURSAY ‘Much money and assets wasted, surely the people deserve answers.’

Tycoon's partying antics draw attention to 1MDB

Eagle: Transparency and due diligence is important, especially when it comes to investing public funds.

For a sovereign fund to default twice on loan repayments is unthinkable. This is very irresponsible. For 1MDB not being able to explain its money trail is also very irresponsible.

If the Securities Commission, Bank Negara, police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are doing their jobs, a few heads will roll. They all seem to be sleeping.

Abdul R: 1MDB’s mission is to drive sustainable economic development in Malaysia by forging strategic global partnerships and promoting foreign direct investments into the country, as well as participating in strategic sectors to help drive the country’s socio-economic growth.

Karolinas: 1MDB is following the rules. Jho Low as a businessman can fly on his private jet to all destinations around the world, but his movements have nothing to do with 1MDB.

Vince Lim: Just face the fact that 1MDB is on the right track. The new management is doing a great job. Just give them time to work and perhaps they will make huge profits for the country.

Sali Tambap: Abdul R, the collaboration with PetroSaudi does not seem to be profitable. It did not have the right to oilfields in the Caspian Sea and besides, the area is still contested by the Balkan states.

On top of that, 1MDB had to pay RM2.1 billion. You may want to know, why go into this kind of deal?

Moreover, the money had gone through so many channels and processes that two audit firms were not willing to sign off on it.

That in itself is already telling, don't you think? What have you and I got to lose, if all of this is investigated and revealed?

Karolinas, you say 1MDB dealings followed the rules and Jho Low had nothing to do with 1MDB. Fine and good.

There were specific assertions being brought up that Low indeed was associated with the 1MDB as a third party, through a company that he had an interest in.

Would you not want to know whether this is true or not? You have to understand that far too many times irregularities such as these happen in Malaysia, such as Perwaja, Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), etc.

You cannot blame the people for being not very trusting because too much money and assets have been wasted through breaches of trust, dishonesty or merely incompetence.

Ordinary Malaysians are affected by all these. If the country is not managed properly, the economy will be affected and it’s the people who suffer, not the ministers or the top corporate officials who are already extremely rich.

Like Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd. At least its investors or account holders get their dividends and interest yearly. The payments are never late or non-existent.

But if there are reports of inconsistencies or abuses within the ASNB, surely people would want to be reassured (by fact and action) that everything is all right with the company.

Similarly, with 1MDB, billions of ringgit in the country's money and assets are involved. Surely the people would want to know the answers to any doubts or irregularities that the company is riddled with.

Vince Lim, even if you want to wait for the 1MDB to accrue profit, you would want to know its status and performance, not just blindly and naively waiting for something to happen.

Right now you loyally and faithfully believe in the credibility of 1MDB's management, even as reports of abuses surface.

Why are you not concerned when billions of ringgir are being siphoned away, when debts were paid late, when doubts crept up surrounding the activities of 1MDB?

The minimum you would want to know was why such things happened in 1MDB and whether they are true or not?

These have to be verified and proven. Otherwise, we can only say that you are planted by 1MDB merely to deflect whatever accusations brought up against it, and that you are an interested party.

Let evidence and the verification process convince the people.

Grey Matter: After reading these comments, people with even half a brain would realise that the rakyat has been conned time and time again for more than 50 years. Please wake up from your slumber and see the facts - there is little cash flow in 1MDB.

Whatever profit shown is paper profit, through the revaluation of government land. If 1MDB was doing so well, why does it need a RM2 billion loan from Ananda Krishnan and a further RM3 billion from the government (which the cabinet allegedly disagreed with, and Najib was forced to withdraw)? Can the BN cybertroopers please explain?

Kathleen Ong: Why can’t BN and their cyber unit hire some intelligent, articulate types who can reason when commenting? All these cybertroopers seem fairly retarded.

Come on BN, quality control please. At least then we can read some well-balanced reasoning.

Headhunter: Thanks to Clare Rewcastle Brown. We are keenly looking forward to the next episode of 1MDBgate by Sarawak Report .

Louis: Easy come, easy go. The money comes so easy, so why not party the night through with Paris Hilton. If it is hard earned, he will think three times before spending.

Lim Chong Leong:   So did Jho Low also inherit his wealth from his frugal father?
