Referring to the recent exposès by the New York Times on the deep pockets of the Najib family, PAS Youth Information chief Mohd Nasaie Ismail has urged the police to open investigation papers on the PM's family's wealth.

He said there were doubts all around, particularly about the source of the wealth obtained by Najib's stepson Riza Aziz and his billionaire friend Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho low.

Previously, it was reported that following the Times report, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO ) came out with a statement saying the prime minister's wealth was partly due to ' legacy family assets '.

The situation got murkier when the prime minister's siblings issued a joint statement expressing concern that the name of their father, who was known for his "frugality", could be tarnished by such talks of family assets.

"Because there exists a lot of doubt about the source of this wealth, we lodged today's police report against Najib and his family on the basis of their extraordinary wealth," Mohd Nasaie told reporters outside the Dang Wangi police station today.

"The report in the New York Times revealed that Najib's stepson Riza and his best friend Jho Low, purchased luxurious properties worth around USD81.55 million or RM290.48 million," said Nasaie.

He further explained that among the properties purchased were a penthouse at the Time Warner Centre (RM106.92 million), a condominium unit in Manhattan, New York ( right) bought by Jho Low and later sold to Riza for RM117.25 million and property purchased in Beverly Hills, Hollywood.

He pointed out the contradictory statements from within the Najib family were also a reason for police to probe Najib and his family.

He added if the police do not take any action, PAS Youth will proceed to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission besides petitioning the Yang di Pertuan Agong.
