Hudud or not, BN parties will sing Umno tune

OURSAY ‘The outcome will be ‑ what Umno does, MCA, MIC, Gerakan will follow.’

Same cabinet meeting on hudud, 'different' results

FellowMalaysian : MCA and Liow Tiong Lai's stand and accompanying actions on hudud so far are just to voice their opposing views in rejecting this Syariah Criminal Code II 1993.

Their effort is feeble and meek and has not elicited any positive response from Umno or PAS other than being rebuffed by the two parties' leaders for opening their mouths.

Liow ought to be prepared to throw in his towel and be more emphatic in his stance by declaring MCA's impending departure and severance of ties with BN and Umno should implementation of hudud laws get any further. Will Liow manage to scramble enough guts to do so?

Doc : In the end the BN component parties’ outcome will be the same as usual. Umno does; MCA, MIC, Gerakan will follow. Give a few more days and I am sure MCA president Liow Tiong Lai will be singing praises for Umno and its need to implement hudud law.

Limfly : When it is politically inexpedient to do the right thing, then they send mixed signals. BN can then deny they ever said this or that, and what they actually meant to say was that and not this, or is it this and not that?

Wayan : I always believed that this would backfire on those who politicised the issue. Looks like my belief was not misplaced.

Dalvik : If BN is sincere to implement hudud, might as well do it nationwide ‑ especially in East Malaysia. Don't put two laws in parallel, it will only further confuse this already confused society.

Mogansivas : Theocratic laws as devised by the religious clerics have no place in the 21st century to regulate a modern society. If the religious brigade wants to subscribe to ‘God’s law’ please do so but do not impose their briefs and faiths on others. I for one am not prepared to be subservient to any religious laws of any faith or denomination.

Kingfisher : ‘Hudud’ in itself has much promise and potential for the benefit of a civilised nation. But the dilemma is that not many modern nations are fundamentally homogenous as it pertains to faith and fellowship to institute hudud norms in regulating human discourse.

The significant progress attained over the last century for a universalism of fundamental human rights on a number of human development indicators has also predicated modern day debate, much to the disadvantage of hudud exponents.

Hardcore exponents are increasingly viewed as a throwback to yesterday’s values and passion not conducive to modern day rights, prerogatives and obligation according to civil and criminal law as provided for within the framework of a written or convention‑based constitution of modern nation states. The challenge is compounded in a country like Malaysia with its multi‑faith citizens.

MA : Suddenly now it is Allah's law; previously we were all living with the Devil's Law. What utter rubbish using religion to justify one's cause. PAS has just fallen straight onto Umno’s plate; what do you think Umno would do when they were persistently courting PAS for Muslim unity.

True : These are just a bunch of ‘devils’ in respectable coats and ties but their body language tells of their deceit and ill‑intentions. No principles, ideals and honour to lead. What to expect from them?

Anonymous #19098644 : It is basically Umno versus the rest. So why are the rest supporting Umno? Is your dignity and integrity for sale?

Unafraid : It is time for the East Malaysian parties to come out strong against hudud in Malaysia. They cannot continue their silence anymore! Silence means consent. How can the elected representatives from Sabah and Sarawak be truthful to their own convictions nor be answerable to the people that elected them if they keep quiet?

People in East Malaysia don't want hudud and the Sabah and Sarawakian representatives must stand up and be counted or be booted out at the next election for having failed the rakyat.

Senior : We are a secular state which has freedom of religion. Let God’s laws govern the private lives, civil laws for public, it's so provided in the constitution.

People of Selangor : Our PM’s attitude toward national matters is that he will just keep silent and quiet. He will not make any statement as usual. He does not care, you mark my words.

Anonymous #578438678 : Remain mute and con the people! This is his tenet of governing the rakyat!

God’s Laws were passed to Moses on Mount Sinai. Not to anybody else. What if tomorrow the king frog says he received some revelation from ‘God’. Would everybody start following him?

Ouch..ouch : "Thirteen component parties of BN are drafting a joint statement to firmly state their stand against the implementation of hudud in the country." ... But Umno is totally ignoring all of them and being most disrespectful about it. The Chinese would have said that Umno is regarding all 13 component as if they were dead.

Anonymous #01428088 : The only way out for BN is to blame it on DAP!

Tommy : Looks like PAS will be very lonely very soon..
