PKR vice-president Tian Chua has been picked up by the police and is currently held in the Seberang Perai Police headquarters in Bandar Perda.

When contacted, Tian Chua said, "I am here but I cannot talk now," before the call was cut off.

However, he tweeted at about 12.15am, saying, "Police intercepted my car in the middle of Seberang Jaya highway.

"Several men hit my head and pulled my hair. Police acted rudely and roughly just as I was asking whether I was arrested and where they would take me too."

Chua, who is Batu MP, said he believes that the police will sent him back to lock-up in Kuala Lumpur.

Machang Bubok assemblyperson Lee Khai Loon and Kebun Bunga assemblyperson Cheah Kah Peng rushed to the police headquarters following the news.

Lee said Chua was arrested at 11.40pm at Jalan Tuna, Seberang Jaya.

"He was roughed up," alleged Lee.

It is believed Chua was being detained for allegedly participating in the anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) rally in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, on May Day.

Chua was in Permatang Pauh to campaign for PKR's candidate Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the parliamentary seat's by-election on May 7.
