Public wrath
Tabung Haji, a pilgrimage fund, has incurred public wrath after it purchased 1.56 acres of land for RM188.5 million from debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The purchase is part of 1MDB's 70-acre Tun Razak Exchange land which it purchased from the government for only RM194.1 million.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad described the purchase as a bailout of 1MDB which is struggling to repay its RM42 billion debt.
Some depositors have also withdrawn their money from the fund as a sign of protest.
