Cops: No compromise with stubborn traffic offenders

Police will not compromise with stubborn traffic offenders who have yet to settle their summonses when ‘Op Warta’ kicks off today.

Bukit Aman Traffic Police chief Mohd Fuad Abdul Latif said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday that those arrested would be brought to court, as they had been given sufficient time to settle their summonses.

When met by Bernama, he said that until yesterday, only 35,339 of the 1.59 million summonses which had an arrest warrant issued following the failure of road users to pay a fine and attend court case, had been settled.

During the same period, a total of 232,312 summonses were settled by road users.

“An arrest warrant is a physical summons for failure to wear a seat belt, for not carrying a driving licence, speeding, or beating the red traffic light.

“The payment period for a summons is fixed, whereby it should be settled by the offender, failing which, court action will be taken,” he said.
