Rohingya mass grave of 100 reported in Perlis

A mass grave of some 100 Rohingya migrants have been discovered by police in Padang Besar, Perlis, according to a report by The Star today.

 

The report, which quoted unnamed sources, said police have despatched commandos and forensic teams from Bukit Aman who arrived at the scene on Friday.

 

"Several police forensic four-wheel drive vehicles were seen driving back and from the border town of Padang Besar," it said.

 

Police officers from the Padang Besar district police headquarters was quoted as saying that the area has been cordoned off and is a restricted to civilians.

 

The report follows the discovery of several mass graves in neighbouring south Thailand which were due to human trafficking.

 

Meanwhile, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng ( photo ) has rebuffed a proposal to house Rohingya refugees in the state.

 

He was responding to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar who had made the proposal, after Putrajaya agreed to temporarily house the refugees who arrived in Malaysian waters by boat.

 

"We are struggling to figure out where in Penang he (Khalid) has in mind.

 

"Our state is too densely populated to be suitable," he was quoted as saying by The Star .

 

Lim also urged the federal government to consult the Penang government on the matter.
