Why is the gov’t afraid of an 18-year-old?

YOURSAY ‘Someone in Putrajaya is trying to curry favour with China.’

M'sia deports Umbrella revolution activist

Doc: Joshua Wong became an international phenomenon and an icon for democratic freedom during the recent Umbrella revolution in Hong Kong. I expect Malaysia to receive bad international press for yet another stupid knee-jerk act from Wisma Putra.

Then again those in Wisma Putra may not be aware of Wong as Time magazine does not have a BM version.

Bringon14 : For goodness sake, is this government mad? What has this young fellow done that is deemed wrong in this country?

Ericlcc: We might as well save some public funds by closing Tourism Malaysia's Hong Kong office. What's the point of spending huge sum of monies on promotion and then ‘kick’ visitors out.

Unless of course this was the intended consequence of some promotional gimmick to attract attention to a lost land called Malaysia.

Odysseus: A little kid is not a national security problem. I am sure he doesn't know how to use C4 or a gun. The real national security is having a porous border in Sabah as well as the Thai border.

Disgusted: What is the difference between Israel and Malaysia? Wong is not even involved in Malaysian politics, just visiting Penang.

While extremists, al-Qaeda and IS terrorists had at one time or another been in Malaysia before creating mayhem elsewhere, a student activist for democracy is treated worse than deadly terrorists.

James TCLow: Sorry, Wong, Malaysian authorities know nothing but use violence on people they don't like. But they are as gentle as can be with robbers and plunderers of the nation’s wealth.

Anonymous_1423808262: What? The Malaysian government is afraid of a teenager carrying an umbrella?

It either wants to apple-polish China or afraid that Wong might teach Pakatan a thing or two about using umbrellas to overthrow a government.

Better spend 24/7 watching all exits of potential jihadist brides and fighters going/returning from Syria and Iraq as these are the elements that can blow Malaysia into smithereens one day. Of course, not that baby-faced Wong.

Ferdtan: Thousands of illegal immigrants, Indonesians, Bangladeshis, Nepalese, mainland Chinese, and now the troubling inflows of Burma’s Rohingya, can slip into the country without problem for so many years.

Even armed Sulu terrorists can easily cross over to Sabah to kidnap our citizens, with our security forces and immigration often caught sleeping.

However, when one feeble-looking 18-year-old activist entered to the country, the unusually efficient Malaysian government deported him, citing “national security”.

As usual BN government’s priority is all wrong. Are they thinking that one young man from Hong Kong can galvanise and turn Malaysians into revolutionists? I guess that someone in Putrajaya is trying to curry favour with China.

Perkasa, any comment?

Spinnot: Malaysia did the right thing to deport this so-called ‘Umbrella revolution activist’.

Is he trying to help foment a ‘colour revolution’ in Malaysia, like the one in Hong Kong in October-November last year which only succeeded in bringing chaos to Hong Kong and ruining the livelihoods of retail shopkeepers and transport operators?

He does not have a proper job in Hong Kong and he is not from a rich family. Who is sponsoring his living expenses, not to mention his ‘colour revolution’ activities such as airfare and hotel accommodation?

Mamba: The boy is fighting for democracy. Aren't we a democratic country? Or are we a communist country?

Nil: What has Wong done? He should be allowed in as a tourist. At least that young boy has not plundered what rightly belongs to the people. Arrest him only if he runs foul of Malaysia's laws.

Chialat: I'm proud of our home minister and immigration officials have finally succeeded in intercepting a small kid from entering the country after so many illegal intrusions and kidnappings in Sabah.

Zahid: National security is the main concern

FairMind: What national security when Wong is a citizen of Hong Kong who is here to talk about free elections.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is just scared that the idea of free and fair elections will spread to Malaysia. It is more like the deportation was for BN’s security rather than national security.

David: The kidnappings and terrorist infiltration in Sabah are more serious national security issues. Malaysia is truly the laughing stock of the world, thanks to the home minister.

Hplooi: This is the same man who downplayed the Suluks’ intrusion when they strolled into Sabah armed to the teeth two years ago.

The same man who wrote a letter of support (without consulting the cabinet) for an alleged international criminal. And the aforesaid is just a starting list.
