PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu is optimistic that he will retain his post in the party leadership elections for the 2015-2017 term at the PAS Annual Muktamar in Kuala Selangor, tomorrow.

"I dare not say anything...my hope is there, InsyaAllah (God willing)," he said briefly when asked on his chances of retaining the party's number two post which he has held for three straight terms.

Mohamad, who is better known as Mat Sabu, had earlier opened the 55th PAS Dewan Muslimat (women's wing) Muktamar (assembly), here, today.

In the elections tomorrow, Mat Sabu will be challenged by party vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for the post.

Tuan Ibrahim, when met by Bernama at the PAS Dewan Ulama Muktamar in Taman Melewar, Gombak, said he and Mat Sabu had a 50-50 chance of winning the post.

"I leave it to the delegates to determine the victor," he said.

Besides the deputy president post, the post of party president will also see a straight contest between the incumbent Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and former PAS vice-president, Ahmad Awang.

Six candidates including two incumbents will vie for the three vice-president posts.

More than 1,000 delegates will determine the Islamist party's leadership line-up for the 2015-2017 term.
