PKR and DAP may have bitter memories over former Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's refusal to resign which triggered a constitutional crisis in the state, but PAS welcomed him with open arms at their ongoing muktamar.
Khalid Ibrahim was spotted at the last day of the PAS muktamar in Kuala Selangor today where he mingled with the delegates.
The former menteri besar was present as an observer.
He allowed press photographers to take pictures of him but declined to speak to reporters.
Last year, PKR had attempted to replace Khalid with its president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Selangor menteri besar after he refused to comply with party decisions.
The ouster was backed by Pakatan Rakyat but PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang defied the decision and submitted his own list of alternative candidates as menteri besar.
Ultimately, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali became menteri besar as a compromise candidate but the crisis drove a wedge between PAS and its Pakatan partners.
Cracks also appeared within PAS as progressives in the party which supported the Pakatan decision criticised Abdul Hadi who is backed by the ulama (conservative) faction.
The progressives were on Friday purged from the party leadership as the ulama made a clean sweep of the central leadership and all wings following party elections.
