YOURSAY ‘Now Umno is finding out that the royal knife can cut both ways.’
Royal smackdown for 'everything to hide' Najib
Gerard Lourdesamy:
PM Najib Razak claimed to have the support of the royalty? Or is that limited to the Pahang royals who are incapable of having an existence independent of the Umno-BN government's patronage?
The rulers must remain above politics and not take to the hustings by voicing public support for one politician over another or endorsing one political party over another.
If the monarchy becomes politicised, it will lose the loyalty and respect of the rakyat.
Swipenter: Umno has been playing politics with the Malay royalty whenever it suits them. Now they are finding out that the royal knife can cut both ways.
Gary Nair: Daulat Tuanku, I am really, really proud of you. You are the man of the rakyat. A real prince and a future ruler.
You told off the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the sports minister, and now the PM.
Most Malaysians don't know that you led the Indian Calvary regiment during India's national day parade and was saluted by the president of India. That is called the royal salute. God bless you, Tuanku.
LKT: It does indeed look like we are seeing the beginning of the end of PM Najib Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.
Too many of the usual Umno benefactors are beginning to show their long hidden moral compass and joining the long-suffering rakyat in crying for justice, accountability and transparency, etc.
As an ordinary long-suffering ‘pendatang’, I am so touched to see that royalty such as Johor Crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim sees it fit to share his disgust at Najib.
Odin Tajué: Your Highness, you have the maturity and wisdom of those much older than you such as Najib obviously and sadly lack.
I remember you recently commented on something to do with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). Please continue to speak up. Your voice carries far more weight than that of the ordinary but equally concerned Malaysians.
Hermit: Daulat Tuanku. The other day, it needs the subtle advice from the crown prince to tick the sports minister on how to manage FAM, and today the crown prince has to tutelage the cabinet prime minister on how to be a responsible leader.
Anonymous_1421406986: I don't think it is a fair remark on the part of the prince. He must stay above the politics of the country.
CQ Muar: I admire the Johor prince for calling a spade a spade. Generally, a royalty do not interfere in politics, unless for a good and valid reason.
In this case, even the crown prince couldn't stand the wrongdoings of the Bugis warrior for his deceit, arrogance, cowardice, evil and lies.
Well done and bravo, Tunku Ismail. I humbly salute you as Najib certainly deserve what's coming. What a royal wash-down for the prime minister.
Cantabrigian: As much I love Tunku Ismail statement, I prefer that the palace not to be involved in the politics of the rakyat, or worse, take sides with any of them. Please observe neutrality.
Onyourtoes: Cantabrigian, it is not neutrality per se. It is being on the "right side", get it?
BTN: Don't condemn Najib for not showing up. The event was organised to bring some needed light to the 1MDB thing but it was hijacked by some irresponsible people who is bend on causing trouble there.
The police chief did the right thing this time round. Mahathir should just keep his mouth shut and not instigate his goons to cause trouble to every PM after him.
Anonymous_29382923: Since the event was organised to bring some needed light to the 1MDB thing, why should the ex-PM, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, "keep his mouth shut"?
He is also a concerned citizen of this country, he has every right as you and I do, to find out the truth of this 1MDB thing.
The fact that Mahathir was there, the more PM should attend to clarify and tell all, to show that he has "nothing to hide", isn't it?
The people there are not fools. They have brains, and it is unlikely that Mahathir could instigate anyone there to cause trouble, and even if there was trouble, the police are supposed to be able to maintain law and order.
Don't tell me that the Royal Malaysian Police are so hopeless that they don't know how to facilitate a meeting.
Bystander: If 2,000 concerned and literate Malaysians attending an important event featuring our beloved PM and also the ex-PM and relevant NGOs in an enclosed auditorium could be a security issue, then I dread to know how our IGP going to give the rakyat confidence in its day-to-day running of the country’s security.
Anonymous_1421806811: The only way for our PM to have his credibility back and prove to everyone he still has the fearless Bugis fighting spirit is to sack the inspector-general of police (IGP) and have a public debate with Mahathir.
If not, sadly, this episode will go down in history as the joke of the century.
