The chest beating about severing ties with DAP at last week’s PAS muktamar was but a show, put on to win seats in the party’s top leadership posts, charged defeated former deputy president Mohamad Sabu.

The outspoken Penang leader, who dutifully announced he would quit from his posts from the DAP-led government out of obedience to the party’s call, said it was clear now that it was all for show.

“Now I can see - the (negative) labelling of people, accusations of being tools, lackeys, Anwarinas, DAP agents - these were all just a means to get their posts (in the party),” said the leader fondly known as Mat Sabu.

“Now that they have gotten their posts, they try to find ways to make nice with DAP. Alas, those who had helped to build Pakatan Rakyat from early on have been chased out,” he said.

“Are positions all they are after? May god show us the light,” he quipped.

Mat Sabu recapped last week’s developments, which he said, led to the natural conclusion that the party’s professionals, who are friendly and cooperative with Pakatan Rakyat, being completely wiped out at the party polls.

He also noted that the motion to cut ties with DAP, originating from Tumpat, Kelantan and the Ulama wing, was passed without debate as the climax of events.

This, he said, followed the preceding Ulama meet on June 3 where it was affirmed that cooperation with DAP had been “destroyed and ended”.

No marriage, no posts

However, said Mat Sabu, the motion has opened a Pandora’s Box over what is to become of the hundreds of PAS members who work in the Pakatan-led state governments of Penang and Selangor.

“And what about the standing of PAS and its members in

He estimated that in Selangor alone, roughly 5,000 members would be affected with the severing of ties with DAP.

Bolstering Mat Sabu’s speculations is the fact that no one has followed in his footsteps to quit their posts.

In particular, newly elected vice president and Selangor exco in charge of housing Iskandar Ab Samad ( left ) has said Selangor PAS has no problems working with the Pakatan government.

Meanwhile the ulama have also promptly issued a statement calling on members not to rush to relinquish their posts saying the final decision still rests with the syura council and central committee.
