Ministers quash cabinet reshuffle talk
Senior ministers Hishammuddin Hussein and Nazri Abdul Aziz have dismissed speculations of an impending cabinet reshuffle.
Senior ministers Hishammuddin Hussein and Nazri Abdul Aziz have dismissed speculations of an impending cabinet reshuffle.
When the question was posed to Hishammuddin in Parliament today, the defence minister laughed it off.
Hishammuddin, who accompanied his cousin Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to Saudi Arabia last Saturday, said he did not wish to entertain conspiracy theories.
"I don't think I should entertain such conspiracy theories. I was supposed to resign last week," he said amid laughter.
Umno blogger Shabudin Husin claimed that the recent Saudi Arabia visit is to prepare for a cabinet reshuffle, which could see Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin being sacked.
Home Minister and Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was also present during the trip.
Nazri: No indication
Similarly, Nazri ( photo ), who is tourism and culture minister, denied that a cabinet reshuffle is on the cards.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament today, he said there is no indication of this.
"I have not heard anything about it," added the Umno supreme council member.
Previously, Najib told ministers who disagreed with him on the 1MDB issue to resign, but none have done so.
Apart from Muhyiddin, Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal has also been critical of the firm.
While Muhyiddin has remained mum on the ultimatum, Shafie said there is no reason for him to resign for posing questions of public interest.
Rumours of Hishammuddin's resignation began to circulate when he tweeted a conditional agreement on Najib's stand.
However, the defence minister denied this, and reiterated that he shares a close relationship with the prime minister.
