In a series of tweets, AirAsia chief executive officer Tony Fernandes has expressed his deep disappointment with the nation’s politicians.

He lamented how the politicians have failed to put the people first.

"These are very strange times in Malaysia. There is no accountability. No one putting people first. These are disappointing times.

"Good education, good hospitals, fair distribution of wealth, an economy that creates jobs, honest clean government. Transparent leadership," he tweeted.

Fernandes also wondered if Malaysia would see the emergence of a political party that would put the interest of the people above their ambitions.

All about race and religion

His June 8 tweets come amidst upheavals in both the ruling and opposition coalitions as well as accusations of corruption and mismanagement against the Najib administration.

Fernandes said the government and the opposition spend too much time on issues pertaining to race and religion.

Citing AirAsia as an example, he stressed on the importance of mutual respect.

"Where all Malaysians respect each other's culture, religion but work together to benefit all.

"If you need an example look at AirAsia," he tweeted.
