Foreigners hurt in Taiwan explosion flown home

Three foreigners injured in a water park explosion in Taiwan, which has led to one death, were flown home while more than 200 injured people are still in intensive care three days later, a media report said today.

Three foreigners were sent home on medical flights late yesterday organised by the company International SOS, according to the state-run Central News Agency ( CNA ).

The three foreign nationals were repatriated to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore, CNA reported, citing International SOS.

The three students suffered burns on between 15 percent and 80 percent of their bodies and suffered inhalation burns, International SOS coordinating doctor Chen Wan-lin said.

Thirteen foreigners were injured in the explosion and fire, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said.

A flammable powder exploded and a concert stage caught fire at the Formosa Water Park in New Taipei on Saturday where about 1,000 people were participating in a dance party.

A 20-year-old woman died yesterday after suffering burns covering 90 percent of her body.

Some 211 injured people were still reported to be in intensive care.
