Veteran singer of Malay traditional songs Samsudin Lamin died from lung infection complications at his home in Kuang, Rawang, today.

Samsudin, 76, leaves his wife Yunetta Yusof, 57, and four children.

When contacted by Bernama, Yunetta said she was at her husband’s bedside when he passed away at 7.44am.

“My husband had been having lung complications for quite some time. In fact, before the start of this fasting month, he was in coma and treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital after falling in the bathroom,” she said.

Samsudin’s remains were taken to the Kampung Setia surau in Kuang for  prayers before burial at the Batu 20 Kuang Muslim cemetery.

Samsudin began singing for Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) in 1951 with Orkes Rangkaian Tunas Baru, and entered the Bintang Asli competitions in 1961 and 1971.

Among his songs were ‘Titisan Embun Pagi’, ‘Pantun Seloka’ and ‘Dondang Sayang Hari Raya’, a duet with Jamilah Abu Bakar.
