Deputy Finance Minister I Ahmad Maslan today has disclaimed responsibility over a purported Twitter post quoting him saying that many people are still visiting Kentucky Fried Chicken chains despite an increase in fuel prices.

Ahmad wrote on his real Twitter account today that the impostor had got his title wrong and that he had never tweeted as such on June 1.

"This is a fake tweet and its slanderous. On June 1, I didn't post such a tweet. If it was meant to be today, it's now the fasting month," said Ahmad.

The fact Twitter post appear to originate from a Facebook account belonging to one Gb Fiute and appeared on a Facebook page impersonating Ahmad.

The impersonator had used a photograph of him in a baju melayu as a profile photo, while the real Facebook account has him in a suit.

Interestingly, the impersonator has garnered 14,000 followers, which is very close to the number of followers in the real account.

Sentiments on the ground is still raw after Putrajaya quietly increased fuel prices at midnight this morning, despite falling global crude prices.

Putrajaya has done away with its practice of announcing fuel prices at the beginning of every month, thus no explanation on the rise in fuel prices is forthcoming.

However, it is likely that it was linked to the steady depreciation of the Ringgit.
