Secret Recipe has regained its Halal certification after completing renovations at its central kitchen in Taman Mayang, Selangor.

The franchise had lost its Halal certification in May, sparking concerns if the use of haram ingredients was the cause.

Jakim however clarified that the license was revoked over cleanliness issues at the Taman Mayang facility.

In a statement today, Secret Recipe said it had set up a team to ensure meet Jakim's halal requirements were met.

"A team of qualified quality and hygience assurance and halal compliance officers were established to ensure that all the source of ingredients, preparation and processes are of compliance with the highest standards of food safety and halal certification standards of Malaysia, MS1500:2009, including good manufacturing practice (GMP) and hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) guidelines.

"We reassure that food safety and quality control are our main priorities, as, we have been following rigorous processes and standards to maintain our certification for the last

15 years and we will continue to uphold our promise to you," Secret Recipe said.

It then thanked its customers for their continued support of the franchise.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom ( photo ) in May explained that halal certification is more than just avoiding haram ingredients.

He said Jakim's halal certification monitored food from farm to table, to ensure that ingredients were both halal, and toyyiban (good quality).
