The Selangor Umno liaison committee today said it stands solidly behind Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in taking legal action against any party accusing him of committing fraud in relation to the 1MDB issue.

Its chairperson Noh Omar said the legal suits were necessary to clear Najib ( photo ), who is also Umno president, from all allegations.

"Selangor Umno supports the prime minister who has said that he is contemplating suing the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and the Sarawak Report blog (over the accusations they have hurled against him). The way to prove it (his innocence) is to go to court.

"We urge the prime minister to take action for the sake of justice for him," he told reporters after launching the Selangor Aidilfitri Festive

Season Price-Control Scheme in Kuala Selangor today.

Last Friday, the WSJ had published a report claiming that almost US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of 1MDB funds had been deposited into the prime minister's personal accounts.

On the same day, the prime minister's office denied the WSJ report, describing it as political sabotage to bring down a prime minister who had been democratically elected.

In the latest developments on the matter, a special task force investigating the claims have ordered that six bank accounts belonging to those believed to be involved in the case to be frozen.
