The Kuala Lumpur police have urged witnesses of the riot that took place in the Bukit Bintang and Jalan Davis area on Sunday night to come forward.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Zainuddin Ahmad said the help of witnesses were needed for investigations into the incident which left at least five people injured.
"The cases are still under investigation. Independent witnesses should come forward and help the police in this matter," Zainuddin told reporters after making his rounds near Low Yat Plaza this evening.
At least 200 people gathered near Low Yat Plaza on Sunday night, in response to a brawl in the popular shopping mall on Saturday, during which seven Malay youths clashed with Chinese mall staff.
The mob attacked several people, including Chinese newspaper staff covering the incident.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said earlier today that 18 people have been apprehended and four investigation papers have been opened.
Khalid said those arrested would be investigated under Sections 147 and 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Meanwhile, Zainuddin warned members of the public not to spread rumours to incite racial tensions.
He said word being spread about groups attempting to stir trouble again at the Low Yat Plaza vicinity was not true.
Zainuddin also confirmed that the person who was accused of stealing a mobile phone from Low Yat Plaza on Saturday evening - which sparked the brawl - would be charged tomorrow morning.
