Indonesia imposes 150pct import tax on alcoholic drinks

Indonesia imposed import duties on alcoholic drinks at 150 percent of their market price today, local media said.

News web site tempo.co reported that the duties are applicable to brandy, whisky, gin, rum and vodka or other beverages with less than 80 percent alcohol content.

The Finance Ministry regulation also lists lower import duties for other beverages with lower alcohol content.

Sparkling wine, cider or sake pay 90 percent.

Non-alcoholic beverages such as tea and coffee carry a 20 percent import tax.
