About 100 people today marked the sixth year since the death of Teoh Beng Hock, who was died when he was held at the Selangor MACC office.

Beng Hock's parents and two siblings were joined by activists, political leaders and the public to mark the occassion at Nirvana Memorial Park, Semenyih.

Notably absent was Beng Hock's widow Soh Chew Wei and son Teoh Er Jia.

Addressing the crowd, Beng Hock's sister Lee Lan criticised the police for failing to apprehend those responsible for her brother's death.

Perpetrators still out there

Nine months ago, the police had reopened investigations following the Court of Appeal ruling that Beng Hock's death was caused by one or more persons.

There has been no new developments since.

In view of this, Lee Lan urged the public to participate in Teoh Beng Hock Trust for Democracy's postcard campaign , aimed that compelling Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to ensure that investigations were expedited.

Last September, the Court of Appeal overturned the Coroner's Court " open verdict " on the cause of Beng Hock's death.

The court also ruled that Beng Hock's death was caused by unlawful actions of unknown persons including the MACC officers involved in his arrest and interrogation.

Following this, the MACC opted to settle a negligence suit brought by Beng Hock's family members by paying RM600,000.

Money no cure

Lee Lan said that although Putrajaya had admitted to negligence and compensated the family, the criminal element of case was still not addressed.

"We want the truth […] Since the MACC has admitted guilt in the civil court, why won't they just surrender themselves? The police are too are dragging their feet with the investigations and allowing the murder to go scot-free," she said.

Lee Lan said that she and her family will not give up until the perpetrators were brought to justice.

Among the DAP leaders present at the function were central committee member Lim Kit Siang, secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, acting chairperson Tan Kok Wai, vice-chairperson Chow Kon Yeow, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, and Beng Hock's former employer and Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah.
